What Will Change in the Future of Global Distribution for Airline Travel? - 1 views

Not effective. Millennials will not spend the time searching multiple websites
  • American Airlines airfares can no longer be found on Expedia or Orbitz websites, or any site powered by Orbitz.

  • Southwest Airlines are not available in most systems for booking reservations
  • They claim they have the lowest American Airlines prices guaranteed, and they have no online booking fees.
  • Then travel companies would be charged to have the Direct Connect system, in the long run, thus paying for the opportunity to sell American flights.

Is it really worth the extra fee? Each agent will need to examine the ROI
  • Southwest is self-contained and stands on their own, as far as distribution methods go.

This could help lower the cost paid to third party sites but also lowers company visibility.
  • then travel companies may have to forward their costs to travelers, hence driving up the price of airfares.
  • While the airlines are all in one distribution system
  • companies are able to offer comparison reports on travel expenses
  • There is also the possibility that more consumers will begin relying on travel agents to locate the best airfares. This will remain to be seen.
    • msoma003

This will be interesting because travel agencies have been on the decline due to advancements in technology.
  •
The article discusses how American Arlines (AA) flights could not be found on Expedia or Orbitz because the company could not reach an agreement with Expedia. AA then suggested customers book flights directly via their website or via Direct Connect, a new system. Southwest airlines is another company that does not sell via third party or GDS sites, they only sell on their on site. When companies begin to remove themselves from traditional GDS systems it changes the way consumers and travel agents begin to book flights. It will make more difficult because we will spend more time comparing multiple sites and we we will never be sure if we are getting the best deal.

Opinion: Cloud accounting transforming the hospitality sector - Manchester Evening News - 3 views

  • Ultimately, if you want to provide a better service to your customers while reducing staff turnover cloud accounting may be the solution for you.
  •
Although short, I found this article incredibly interesting after learning about the MIS manager role. MIS managers are meant to keep track of information systems, making sure the results are correct and being implemented. Well, what if you had an "accountant" who did all that for you, and more? It seems cloud accounting is doing just that for any industry, including the hospitality sector. The cloud software is a system that brings all the company's information systems together under one virtual roof, this can include POS, payroll systems, and more. Not only does the cloud accountant promise more accurate data, but also saves time and money, allowing businesses to better service their guests.

HITEC 2001 - Hospitality E-Business - The Future by by Roger S. Cline and Dr. Mark Warner - 0 views

  • Hospitality e-business is not only here to stay, but destined to play an increasingly significant role in the way the hospitality business is conducted in the future.
  • Technology is also forcing out distribution inefficiencies with a significant impact on the travel industry's intermediaries and their traditional business models. It is also reducing transaction costs (the interactions between people and functions) within companies. In the future, successful companies will likely tend to specialize in one or two, but not all three, of the key elements of all businesses: customer relationship management, infrastructure (back office support) and product innovation.
  • Despite the surprisingly high general levels of connectivity in the industry, however, only 58 percent of reporting organizations have a formal e-business strategy.
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • Chart 6. E-Business activity is projected to nearly double over the next three years.
  • One of the principal attractions of online distribution for hospitality companies is the opportunity to reduce the high costs of distribution that such companies have historically faced. Between travel agency commissions, GDS fees, switching costs and the costs of a central reservation system, hospitality company executives have complained for years about the onerous costs of their multi-faceted distribution systems.

8 Best Hotel Management Software | Global Hospitality Portal - 2 views

  • What makes a hotel management software best in the business?
    • berkley7

I have experience working with My Cloud PMS and compared to some of the other software systems I have experience with, such as Opera, this is hands down one of the most convenient PMS software I have used. It truly makes it easy for every department to edit, update and stay connected within the hotel and other departments.
  • There are a lot of hotel management software but myCloud PMS is trying to retain the innovative edge within the hospitality industry.

  • A competitive hotel property management software provides you with financial and business reports regarding your hotel business. You can learn about room occupancy ratios, the duration of stay of your guests, payment collection methods, and similar statistical forecasts about your hotel.
  •
Module 2: Hardware/Software (Berkley Alessandrini) The following article compares the current top/trendy management software programs within the hospitality industry - specifically within lodging operations. Obviously manually updating your hotel's information is no longer an effective way to do things. The following article breaks down certain software programs like; My Cloud PMS, Oracle, roomMaster, etc, and gives information on each that differentiates them. I can relate to the article because I have experience working with a few different types of software programs and I know first-hand how important it is to have a software that is convenient, organized, and user friendly. Depending on the program, they have the ability to be customised based on needs of the hotel and can even add certain features if necessary. After analysing the article, I believe that it is vital to compare the different programs available to find a PMS that fits best for your specific hotel. In some cases, maybe your property will not benefit from the "top" management software system; therefore you must compare and find one that will work best with your needs, requirements, budget, etc. It is important for the Lodging Industry to take full advantage of the technology that is provided to them and as technology is constantly evolving - you must (as a business) evolve with the changes and update your current technology to lead and stay ahead of the trends. Having a software that provides your hotel with the best features, availability, etc. is a must!

New Hotel Ecommerce and Personalization Strategies - Duetto Blog - 0 views

  • Of increasing importance to hotels is ecommerce — but 20 people within an organization could have 20 different definitions of hotel ecommerce. It’s important for leadership to rein that in, ensuring everyone is talking the same language.
  • Easy revenue meetings are not productive revenue meetings. Challenge both teams to understand each other’s business and how you can coordinate strategies to lower acquisition costs and increase profit. Give both sides self-service access to reports, but prepare for small issues to turn into second- and third-level questions. Embrace those who engage through poking and prodding, but make sure it’s productive. Be able to sell the story. Every promotion is not going to go great, but learn from each situation and be able to explain why you’re doing it throughout. Manage the conversation in layers, first ensuring the hotel is positioned correctly before executing media, and then demonstrating where you can deliver revenue. Develop a multi-year plan that incorporates ancillary revenue, including F&B, golf, spa, etc. Make fewer decisions based on your forecast. Get out of the 90-day cycle and do better full-year planning, aligning your strategy with the budget. “Don’t talk about the plan in February for a May wedding,” LaRose said.
  •
This article states the differences in job description of both digital marketing manager and revenue manager, but LaRose focuses on the importance of having them work closely to best reach their goals. Basically you cant have one without the other and each position has something unique to offer to the hotels growth and popularity. Every hotel must sell a story and meet the demands of their guests, consistently adapting and changing, adding and subtracting when needed in order to maximize revenue and continue to be attractive to its consumer.

  • AHLA encourages consumers to book directly through the hotel website or mobile app

This article reviews a survey conducted by the American Hotel & Lodging Association which reveals that 23% of consumers say they have been misled by third-party traveler re-sellers. The article further explains the Federal Trade Commission's investigation of one of these companies, Reservation Counter, LLC which resulted in legal action. The article concludes that to protect consumers AHLA will support legislation known as the Stop Online Booking Scams Acts and strongly encourages travelers to book directly through the hotel or trusted travel agent. I think we are seeing the AHLA's opposition to OTA's in defense of hotel properties that want direct booking. The protection of customers is important, but it seems like an implied warning of ligitimate OTA's like www.booking.com.

This integration has multiple benefits including more accurate, faster and detailed bookkeeping and more efficient cost of goods sold management. At my restaurant, we use a very similar software to this called Avero. Avero is integrated with our Aloha POS system and the information is automatically inputted every morning from the day before. As a General Manager, I find software like this necessary to day to day operations. It enables me to generate reports on product mixes, individual server sales, categorical sales and even enables me to monitor labor compared to my revenue.

All of this information is streamlined to portable tablets or security stations and can be updated remotely and shared digitally. "The front-end policies you have will protect you in the moment and in the end," Justin Parafinczuk, a partner for the defense law firm Koch, Parafinczuk, Wolf and Susen said. ""Any break in the chain is a liability. It's a minefield." In my opinion, this type of software not only makes sense but should be required in all hotels. When dealing with emergencies that involve life and death, seconds matter. It is software like RealView that can be the difference in saving peoples live's. RealView offers the ability to streamline real time information and make it easily sharable. I believe that not having this type of software should be considered a legal liability to hotels and they should be held accountable if they do not have this type of software implemented.

Businesses See GDPR as an Opportunity to Improve Data Privacy and Security - 0 views

  •
A new study done by IBM has discovered that nearly sixty percent of organizations are embracing the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), having their sights set on improving privacy, security, and data management. This is a relief to see as this particular subject in the hospitality industry has frequently come up as a major talking point with the developing technologies in the industry; the fact that industry leaders are viewing the GDPR in this manner rather than a compliance issue/restriction is refreshing. Seventy percent of survey responders are disposing data ahead of the deadline for compliance in an attempt to reduce their exposure. IBM did a separate poll that found only twenty percent of US consumers completely trusted organizations to maintain the privacy of their data. Due to this, businesses are using the recent GDPR compliance as a statement to consumers that they're looking to build trust and reliability with customers and drive innovation. However, even with the opportunities at hand, only thirty six percent of responders believed they will be fully compliant by the deadline. To minimize the amount of data an organization is managing, companies are taking measures such as reducing the number of people who have access to personal data or simply cutting down on the amount of data stored. Additionally, studies have found that the primary challenges organizations are facing with the GDPR include finding all the of the personal data stored in their business, ensuring the accuracy of said data, and making sure this data is in compliance in how it is shared or used. Another challenge to the new compliance is that companies are to report data breaches to regulators within 72 hours of the breach, yet IBM has found that only thirty one percent of companies have taken a look at the measures they have in place for incident response to account for this new rule in compliance.

  • The intelligent software tool is used to data mine various building automation networks or raw collected data for executive-level summary reports and facility performance information.
  • “Roving engineers” can predictively respond to issues without having to be on site. Instead, they use the technology to monitor from afar and only respond if there’s an alerting request.
  • When talking cost-cutting and fine-tuning energy consumption, sustainability often takes center stage, with a strong helping hand from data collection and analysis.
  • This year, the firm recognized its top 25 managed properties in the U.S. that achieved a 10 percent or greater year-over-year increase in Energy Star score. These combined efforts have resulted in a total greenhouse gas emission reduction equivalent to cutting nearly 86 million miles driven by an average passenger vehicle or planting more than 580,000 trees.

Not only are PMSs valuable for hotel management, but also for commercial and residential properties. The ability to predictively prepare for any issues that may occur allows for less onsite staffing at any given moment aside from the already lowered costs of using these online systems allows. These systems can also track energy usage to allow for better property management across the board.

Top Luxury Eco-Friendly Sustainable Hotels and Why Travelers Love Them | By Alan Young ... - 0 views

Are Waiters In Danger Of Being Replaced With Tablets And Robots? - iReTron Blog - 0 views

This article point the positive and the negative effects of robot waters and tablets in the restaurant industry. There is a high demand for eMenu and robots in the restaurant industry in the country like China.
  • A new report from Cornell University claims that table top technology actually benefits customers at full-service casual dining chains. By monitoring one chain restaurant’s service over the course of two Fridays and two Saturdays, research showed that table turnover rates improved and customer spending increased when a table top-placed tablet was used for ordering and/or settling the bill.
  • When you think about it, there can be advantages to robot waiters. They won’t spit in your salad when they get mad at you, and they certainly won’t give you a bad attitude. They probably won’t need to be tipped. But don’t people go to restaurants for human interaction?
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • Perhaps people who attend fancy restaurants won’t like the new technology completely taking over their experience. And then there are people who are completely sick and tired of technology taking over every other profession, including education and banking. But the replacement of waiters with tablets and (possibly) robots is certainly going to happen whether they like it or not.

  • Guests no longer need to accompany the server to swipe their credit card on EDC machine kept at the front office/reception desk and return to the table.
  • Restaurateurs can track and manage their raw material and stock in the kitchen in a flash instead of spending countless hours on manual calculations
  • A restaurant owner need not be physically present to make sure that his restaurant is running smoothly.
  • POS integration allows the orders to get automatically accepted into the POS, instead of manual entering of the online orders.
  • Now, bill generation and payment can be done via mobile phones and guests can settle their bill as soon as they have finished eating, speeding up the bill settlement process

Everything you need to know about property management systems - SiteMinder - 0 views

  • Here are five common property management system myths and why we think they’re unfounded…
  • 1. You think cloud-based technology is confusing or hard to use
  • The opposite is true. A PMS allows you to keep everything in one place and it can never be lost. You can access your data from any location so long as you have the Internet.
  • ...6 more annotations...
  • 2. You worry that sensitive data is insecure and vulnerable
  • With data in the cloud you don’t have to worry about viruses or bugs, and hacking is much less likely to succeed thanks to firewalls and authentication gateways.
  • 3. Your current software works just as well as cloud-based technology It’s unlikely this is true and even if it is, it won’t be for long. Cloud software is constantly being updated and evolved meaning users automatically get the benefits included in their monthly fee.
  • 4. You believe a web PMS is only suitable for large hotels The reality is that smaller or independent hoteliers are often stretched thinner than anyone. With less staff and more responsibility, the time and hassle saved by using a cloud-based PMS is vital and could be the difference between getting the bookings needed for maximum occupancy or losing revenue on empty rooms.
  • 5. You think hotel technology is too expensive Cloud-based systems are actually very cost effective.
  • There’s also no lengthy setup process and with the time you save using it, more resources can be directed towards increasing guest experience and revenue streams.
  •
