  • This approach means that you target users with online ads on their smartphones. You create audience segments in a mobile ad platform to specify whom to reach and when.
  • Geotargeting, geofencing, and geo-conquesting are suitable for promoting your dining place. But note that when it comes to food & dining, location marketing may be less potent for small restaurants. National and local chains usually benefit from it more

MarineXchange: Cloud Computing and AI Next Onboard - Cruise Industry News - 0 views

  • Celebrating MarineXchange’s 20th anniversary this year, the company has played a key role in developing software written specifically for the industry, with a portfolio of software and hardware solutions, managing all office and ship related activities.
  • “We are working very closely with Microsoft to bring cloud computing onboard ships next,” Lindthaler said. “It is called on-premises cloud (solutions for ships), and it does not exist today.

  • For the cruise customer, the software will be able to make meaningful recommendations in terms of shore excursions, for example, before they take a cruise. This serves two purposes, he said: it generates revenue and helps making the booking stick. Guests who purchase shore excursions before making their final payment are less likely to cancel the cruise.
  • “What is important is to make relevant recommendations based on the customers’ history that is stored and interpreted by the software. The self-learning engine takes into consideration the guest profile, nationality, gender, age, if they travel with extended family, friends, where they are sailing; it looks at many data points before making recommendations.” For the supply chain, the AI engine can find correlations between cruise lengths, weather, deployment and special occasions, according to Lindthaler. “Our current system can handle all of this,” he said, “but requires more data maintenance and also experienced provision masters. With the growth of the industry, there is a shortage of experienced crew, however, and this is where the technology can help. Sailing seven days out of Miami, it is not very difficult, but for global deployment, accurate forecasting becomes more of a challenge.”

Every year, technological advances are made in each industry, including the hospitality industry. These advances are often seen as threats according to this article, however, they might also pose as great opportunities for the industry and its stakeholders. The article highlights some of the major disruptors in the hospitality industry. Trends such as facial recognition and robots were among those mentioned. I found that both of these trends have negative and positive aspects to them. Facial recognition would reduce the time spent checking in significantly, however guests would still be concerned with the storage of their personal data. Additionally in regards to robots, they aid in operational efficiency in check in and check out services also but they could possibly omit the human touch factor of certain roles that guests appreciate.

I also read this article just for a better understanding of the cloud and to really dive deep into the good and the bad, because as we know you can't have the good without the bad. I didn't realize the many different types of cloud computing so that was interesting to read.

Hello Alejandra, This is another great article that you have posted, thank you! Although I have been doing a lot of reading this week on Cloud Computing, I was truly enlightened by some of the information in this post; for example, Cloud Computing offers both public and private services, coupled with a Hybrid option that allows more flexibility and helps optimize the user's infrastructure and security. Further, creating and testing apps, and audio and video streaming were highlighted in this article, unlike others that I have read. Moreover, it broke down the functions of the components of the system (SaaS), infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), and platform-as-a-service (PaaS). Equally, some disadvantages stood out to me, like if the encryption key is lost, the data disappears. The geographical reach of cloud computing cuts both ways: A blackout in California could paralyze users in New York, and a firm in Texas could lose its data if something causes its Maine-based provider to crash. Additionally, with many individuals accessing and manipulating information through a single portal, inadvertent mistakes can transfer across an entire system. In closing, I have noticed that overall the benefits of Cloud Computing can tremendously assist companies in many ways, but some of the disadvantages can have a catastrophic impact on businesses and their operations. Data security is a major issue in the hospitality industry. A lot of personal information is stored on the computers specifically credit card information of the guests staying at the hotel. It is the responsibility of the hotel to ensure that the data is protected. High turnover rate in the industry can make this an even bigger challenge. Ensuring that your staff is properly trained to ensure the highest level of security is maintained is highly important.

This article speaks about the data security concerns in hospitality. Restaurants, hotels, and other companies in the hospitality sector often have complex ownership structures in which there's a franchisor and a management company that acts as the operator. Businesses use different computer systems to store information. The nature of the hospitality industry is such that it is extremely reliant on cards as a form of payment. Cybercriminals use this reliance on cards to infect point-of-sale (POS) systems with malware that steals credit and debit card information by scraping the data. A vital part of protecting data is training staff to securely gather and store personal information. Well-trained staff also know how to recognize social engineering attempts and they understand an organization's compliance requirements. Data security risks in the hospitality industry extend far beyond the reputation hit that a hotel can take if guests' data is compromised. Industry and political regulators are becoming stricter in governing how organizations process and store personal data. Some of the best practices for companies in the hospitality industry to use are: always encrypt payment card info, operate training programs in cybersecurity regularly to keep everyone informed, adhere to regulations, know where the data is, and enforce limit access to sensitive info, and more.

Cloud computing is booming, but these are the challenges that lie ahead | ZDNET - 0 views

  • According to a recent report by tech analyst Gartner, worldwide consumer spending on public cloud services is forecast to grow 20.7% to $591.8 billion in 2023, up from $490.3 billion in 2022. That's compared to the 18.8% growth forecast for 2022.
  • The technical expertise needed to support the rapid adoption of cloud is something hiring managers need to think about as they head into 2023
  • The lack of cybersecurity staff – which is facing a dual challenge of extreme demand and high rates of stress and burnout-related attrition – has become particularly acute over the past year

  • Hewitt says the rise of hybrid cloud has raised specific challenges for security by creating more potential entry points for malicious code and similar threats.
  • ar threats.
  • Managing risks properly will require an empowered IT leadership that is given a say in strategic decision-making processes – something you'd might assume is a given, but continues to be a complaint among tech leaders.
  • "Higher-wage and more skilled staff are required to develop modern SaaS applications, so organizations will be challenged as hiring is reduced to control costs," wrote Sid Nag, vice president analyst at Gartner.
  •
As spending on cloud services jumps up almost 21% from last year, everything seems to be positive for this fast growing technology. It is, however, facing some challenges along the way that companies are going to need to take into consideration when spending on these services. Making sure they have a well qualifies and capable team to keep these services secure without burning them out is one of the concerns employees are bringing up in recent conversations. The security and safety of the data held by these services is very important, and needs to be prioritized in the day to day decisions made by all companies that utilize these services. Threats and malicious code taken advantage of by hackers is ever growing, and requires a constant, educated team with empowerment to protect to constantly watch out for these threats. Cloud computing still continues to grow, and is still a great advancement in business, but it also still needs to have it's threats carefully assessed and addressed to make sure it remains secure.

  • This robustness of AI and robots appears to be useful when serving quarantined customers at hotels during the COVID-19 pandemic [24,25]. One may claim that guest requirements have changed as they expect modern technology-based products and customised services [26]. Innovative technology and risk reduction practices attract customers [27].
  • To date, customers also look forward for advanced technology products and customised experiences [26,34]. Therefore, the hospitality sector has adopted advanced robots and AI to meet consumer demands [35]. The future foresees heavy use of AI alongside humans [36] at workplace, but human behaviour towards AI and robots remains untapped [37]. Use of AI and robots cannot be avoided in the future and it is already established that the implementation of these modern technologies increases employee TI, thus highlighting the need to identify key factors that can mitigate the influence of these technologies on employees' TI.
  • Artificial intelligence (AI) reflects the ability of a system to interpret external data appropriately to drive learning, as well as to use them to accomplish specific goals and tasks while adapting them as per circumstances [46]. It was known as a facilitator of tasks that is mechanical, but to date, it is recognised as a facilitator of tasks involving thinking and analytical capabilities. Accordingly [47], contended that due to the recent technological advancements, AI agents do not have the ability to handle tasks involving thinking and analytical skills. Robots are any machine introduced into the production process and can perform the tasks previously performed by workers [48].
  • The COVID-19 outbreak has enhanced the use of AI and robotics to avoid the threat of virus spread. Similarly, new technologies, i.e., AI, service automation, and robotics, are being used extensively in the hospitality and tourism industry. When AI and robots are applied in the hospitality setting, different benefits, such as cost reduction, accuracy, and speed, can be attained [35]. However, the utilisation of AI and robotics has created job insecurity among the employees of hospitality [42].
