CivilWarSallie - home - 3 views

  •
Hi! My name is Sallie Ann. I was made in Gettysburg, PA, and I'm named after the mascot of the 11th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry from the Civil War. My job is to travel around the U.S. looking for Civil War battlefields or museums and schools learning about the Civil War. Along the way, I hope to teach kids more about the Civil War while also helping them to learn about using technology. I'll start out in Gettysburg, PA,and learn about the battle that took place there. My visit to you will last about one week, but before I leave, I hope that you will put something from the battlefield, museum or your school in my backpack so I can keep it as a memento of my visit.

This video was very interesting, enjoyable and truthful. I have added it to http://www.textbooksfree.org/Quick%20Notes%20History.htm. Slave trade has been around a long time. It replaced the practice of killing or eating those who lost in battle. Weren't most American slaves or their ancestors first enslaved by Africans who lost in battle to other Africans?

Kublai Khan In Battle, 1287 - 7 views

  • In the middle 13th century the influence of the Mongol Empire established by Genghis Khan stretched from the borders of Poland in the West to the Yellow Sea in the East. Kublai Khan, grandson of Genghis, became ruler of the empire in 1260 and proceeded to consolidate his power by relinquishing the Mongol conquests outside China establishing his capital at the site of modern-day Beijing.

An excellent find! Contains over 3000 members who discuss different aspects of history. You're going to get a few loonies in a group of people that size but it seems well-organised and efficiently run. Looks like there's a few battles of ideas going on there too, which is cool.

This exhibition uses the words of famous generals and lesser-known troops, as well as parents, sweethearts, and children, to explore such themes as leaving home, life in the military, the pride and worries of those left behind, and ultimate sacrifice.

Civil War - 0 views

A thorough collection of reports and official records from the US Civil War, from both the Union and Confederate armies. Very detailed. If you're interested in quality sources on the US Civil War, can I suggest History According to Bob at www.summahistorica.com? He's a professor on the subject and his podcasts give a thorough treatment of the topic.

Vietnam - The Battle of Long Tan - 8 views

  • The Viet Cong had achieved dominion in the province  and decided to inflict a politically unacceptable defeat on the Australians. Their plan was to lure the Australians from their base by firing recoilless rifle and mortar shells into it. They theorised that the Australians would sweep the area around the base in an attempt to stop the attacks, and the Viet Cong would ambush the sweeping forces.
