Digital Collections at Columbia - 1 views

  •
An excellent set of digital source collections run by Columbia Uni. I've been meaning to save all these collections individually but it's such a massive task that I'm just saving the root pages of the collections. If you have a look through these you'll find some gems. And if you save them to the group you will have my undying affection (just please use the same tagging standards - it keeps the information findable).

BBC - History: World War One - 13 views

  •
A glossy and well-resourced site with information on the main conflicts of the twentieth century. Takes a British perspective (unsurprisingly).
  •

The Bubble Project (BP) - 0 views

  •
"The Bubble Project (BP) is a collaborative and interdisciplinary research initiative on the subject of the South Sea Bubble (SSB), the 1720 English episode in what might be called the first great international financial crisis (i.e., the SSB follows upon the collapse of Law's Mississippi scheme in France)." Will we ever learn from history?

London's Past Online - a bibliography of London history - 0 views

  •
Many of the links here refer to journals in libraries, however I managed to get an article on the role of women in Stuart era alehouse culture (are these the only types of things we study these days?) as a pdf, so some are downloadable. Covers all things London.

If only those smart-stupid Wall Street Bankers had had access to resources like these... and the humility to study them.

  •
A large collection of images of medieval manuscripts however you can't zoom to a close focus and there aren't translations, except for a brief description of what each page on the manuscript contains.

About History Data Service - 0 views

  •
"The History Data Service collects, preserves, and promotes the use of digital resources, which result from or support historical research, learning and teaching." This says that it's open access, but on closer inspection you need an Athens login (only available if you're attached to an institution which pays for it). Would be great if you could get in, though, I'd imagine.

Boothºs 1889 London Poverty Map - 0 views

  •
An interesting site. Someone has scanned in Charles Booth's 1889 map showing London poverty. You can zoom in to street level and see which are vicious, poor areas and which are stable, middle-class ones. Fascinating.

Antiquity Journal - 0 views

  •
This provides a database of archaeological sites currently under excavation, including images of artefacts and some historical information. You search by region and then get a list of sites currently being worked on, so it can be a bit time-consuming but would be excellent for student research.

This seems like a somewhat eclectic mix of links to sites with primary sources. Might be a few gems in there but also might take a while to find them.
