'On December 7, 1941, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. The next day, the United States and Britain declared war on Japan. Two months later, on February 19, 1942, the lives of thousands of Japanese Americans were dramatically changed when President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. This order led to the assembly and evacuation and relocation of nearly 122,000 men, women, and children of Japanese ancestry on the west coast of the United States.'

The images are organised around themes and can be viewed in very high resolution. Very interesting to see too that even 65 years ago Japanese people always had immaculate hair all the time. Amazing.

Why We Fight #1: Prelude to War (1943) 52:21 - 4 years ago The first part of a series of films produced by the United States War Department during World War II. The series explained the reasons for the U.S war effort up to that time. This first part covers the rise of Fascism in Italy, Nazism in Germany, and Militarism in Japan and juxtaposes their political and social systems with that of the U.S. It also portrays the first examples of Japanese aggression in Manchuria and China, as well as the example of Italian aggression in Ethiopia. Supervised and Directed by Frank Capra. Be mindful of the ethnic stereotypes in this film.

Early Korea Project: Images - 0 views

There's not much here really, just a few images of archaeological sites and artefacts from Korea but given that's not a place you see much about I've included them. When I lived there I visited the significant sites but usually they were uninspiring and accompanied by a sign that read something like: 'This is [insert Korean place name] which was destroyed by the evil marauding Japanese in [insert year]'. No love lost there, I think...

Dr. Seuss Went to War - 2 views

  •
These are the cartoons produced by the Dr Seuss dude during World War II (1942-44). It's not exactly Green Eggs & Ham; shows how war can bring out the ugly side of a people. Very interesting though and probably excellent for some class activities or resource design. The images of Japanese are decidely un-PC.
