A former Apple interface designer critiques Microsoft's 'Productivity Future Vision (2011)' video that has been spreading on the web (and a couple of you have shared here on Diigo).  The Apple guru's biggest gripe? Microsoft portrays a future dominated by single finger interaction with touch-enabled devices. But we are already seeing more elaborate Human-Computer interaction involving more of  our bodies and communication modes-- full body (Kinect, Microsoft), and voice & hearing (Siri, Apple). Mr. Victor says that Microsoft's vision wasn't as revolutionary as it seems.

I agree with the author on Microsoft's lack of vision about future technologies (which I also ranted about on facebook). At the same time, we have to note that Microsoft currently has devices that enable 'full body' communication and Apple does not. And their latest wonder 'Siri' was acquired, not developed internally. I respect Apple for their innovations but we haven't seen any 'vision' from Apple yet and I am curious to know what they might be thinking.

When I was a little kid, a strange little kid, I believed this scenario was playing out and that I was the only human that ever existed...You too? This is a full matured approach to the UI and emersive properties of AR & VR. But as usual, the vision of this new world mirrors present paradigms just with futuristic technical applicatios...playing vinyl records and adjusting the rabbit-ears on their TV to watch Survivor Season 325

A really intriguing collection of where educators think mobile learning/ubiquitous computing are heading towards.

These are awesome! I love how far out of the box some of these educators were willing to go...what a nice collection of "crystal ball" visions to document and archive to then see if any (or all) of them ever actualize.

The MIT Technology Review just interviewed Khan and talked about his vision for the future, sustainability, and business models.

Through an example of the University of the People (online, tuition-free, non profit university), the article highlights the hardships such organization face to be successful in achieving their vision/mission. Credibility issue for online university issued certificate is also mentioned.   

It includes technologies the size of atoms, that will be present in all area of our environment-- similar to the Microsoft Future Vision videos we've seen in T561. But we'll be able power our devices using our own bodies?

Hewlett Packard, Inc. started a global initiative to make the best use of technology to advance STEM.

Georgia's Hall County partnered with Dell and transforming the classrooms "one student at a time", using 1) personalized 2) blended 3) data collection and 4) results. Sounds familiar? "wouldn't believe that these types of classrooms existed if I hadn't seen it for myself. When you get a group of dedicated educators together with a shared vision that is designed to remove the business-as-usual stigma and support total transformation you can achieve amazing things."

It looks like this argument and vision has a lot of common ground with the NETP. I'm curious to read the book and see what the principal differences are.

As I chew through the Visions 2020 readings, I can't help my skepticism...and not due to the seamless integration of emerging ed technology. Alas, PEOPLE and the existing power structure of schools (reform) are not guided by a mission to reinvent, but to move the goal posts on ed standards around so as to insulate and protect the paradigm. In response to Chris's last side this morning about a mobile "6th sense", I wanted to bring up Apple's "knowledge navigator" vision of an intelligent "personal agent from the late 1980's.  Tuesday morning, it's highly anticipated that Apple will introduce an "Assistant" derived from it's 2010 purchase of Siri Personal Assistant Software.  Some form of Chris '6th sense" agent may become reality tomorrow morning!

Her vision includes increased informal learning, greater access to emerging software and online content such as Khan Academy and project-based work that allows students to apply what they learn to real world situations.

Orwell missed the mark with his vision of a society that is policed by a single panoptical entity (government). WE ARE BIG BROTHER! Regardless of use, taste or even civility, the masses are using their digital recorders to capture everything. These students have developed a very interesting aggrigator of live video cams that layers over Google Earth sat feeds....Check this out!
