The author encourages finding toys that support development across all domains - cognitive development, fine motor, gross motor, language, etc. How this influenced my thinking: When I first sat down to right the short critical thinking assignment on cognition and toys, it did not even occur to me to write about home-made toys such as a simple first puzzle made out of a muffin tin and some small objects, yet in reality, things found around the house make some of the best toys - ones that really engage babies and toddlers and are truly beneficial to child development. This clip shows the activity how it is performed and how the data is collected and the graph plotted. I think it is very interesting watching what we learn how it is actually done in practice and also how it occurs naturally. How this influenced my thinking: It has made my belief stronger on the ability our children have to perform cognitive tasks at a much earlier age than previously thought. How this influenced my thinking: I used to think that there was only one way to parent and what worked for one child would work for all but this showed me that by understanding your child's temperament you can develop a much more effective way to parent. How This Influenced My Thinking: This gave a clear, straightforward description of the four distinct parenting styles. It has made me think that when I am raising a child that I need to make sure that I remain an authoritative and not cross the line to authoritarian or even the permissive parent. I'm not afraid to admit that I'm not perfect and this has made me realize how extremely important it is to be aware of how I respond or control situations while helping my child develop in a healthy manner.
