Newspapers: Doing just fine.

The push for newspapers to charge their online readers reached wild-rumpus status last week, as Newsday.com announced a pay wall.

Amazon is planning to bring a Kindle reader to the Mac platform, according to a report from Fast Company. The question came  up after Microsoft announced during the Windows 7 launch this week that Amazon would release a Kindle reader for that OS, and an Amazon spokesperson confirmed for the magazine that Kindle was coming to the Mac, too.

The retailer cut the price of the e-reader to $259, from $279, only a couple of weeks after sales began.

The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) on Thursday called on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to withdraw its recent guidelines regarding the commentary of bloggers and other social media opinion leaders, saying the new rules unconstitutionally penalize online media for practices traditional media have had in place for decades. Randall Rothenberg, IAB's chief executive, sent a letter to FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz saying the new rules will "muzzle" bloggers.

The implications of Net Neutrality may well affect how people can get to online epublished works, especially those put out by smaller publishers....The Federal Communications Commission unanimously voted to open the proceeding that could lead to open-Internet regulations, although the two Republican commissioners dissented on whether rules are warranted. The approval of the notice to consider net neutrality rules is the culmination of contentious lobbying by the telecom industry and an intense exchange of letters from members of Congress.
