iRubric is a tool that helps faculty design rubrics for assessment. This tool is part of the Rcampus suite of opensource tools.

This is a Universal Design for Learning project built by CAST, a nonprofit R&D organization that uses Universal Design for Learning as a tool to improve learning opportunities for all individuals, including those with disabilities (originally Center for Applied Special Technology). See the Featured Tools on the home page for some interesting "highly supported" digital tools.

Part of the University of Georgia's College of Education Initiative on Innovation in Teaching and Technology (ITT), this page links to presentations in the Innovation 20/20 series. Each topic is a 20 minute presentation on a specific innovation, followed by a 20 minute discussion period. Topics range from more reflective teaching (e.g. Using Metaphor to Explore Teaching and Learning) to using specific tools or strategies (Designing and Implementing an Undergraduate Blogging Community in EDIT 2000 or Motivating Students with Google Tools and More). Navigation on this page also points users to Innovation Resources, Innovation News, and the Discovery Series (another set of online videos).

eduTecher is a great place to look at new educational technologies, or to find just the right technology to do a job (e.g. document collaboration or word clouds). Each tool is reviewed by the staff, and users can search the database various ways. While many tools have a K-12 focus, there are plenty that would be useful in postsecondary education as well.

From the Introduction, "Mathgrapher is a mathematical graphing tool for 2D and 3D functions and data. It includes linear and nonlinear curve fitting, integration and analysis of coupled ordinary differential equations (ODE's) and multi-dimensional iterative maps, matrix operations, Lindenmayer systems and some cellular automata." Though the site indicates that the MathGrapher hasn't been updated since 2007, the site was recently given a positive review by University of Wisconsin's Internet Scout Report.

"Abstract The use of design patterns is now well established as an approach within the field of software systems as well as within the field of architecture. An initial effort was made to harness patterns as a tool for elaborating the design of the elements of personal learning environments as part of the University of Bolton's Personal Learning Environment project; however, this earlier effort had a number of limitations that prompted a revisit to the pattern language documented here. In particular, the initial patterns, while functionally useful, lacked some of the moral and generative qualities that are the essential qualities of an effective pattern language. This paper presents a revised pattern language focused around two primary categories, learning networks, and personal learning tools."

It provides instructional tools including: templates for creating online activities, online testing tools, access to over 3 million online activities and quizzes, a schoolwide network to promote collaboration, a centralized classroom management system, a class Web page creator and online surveys for gathering student and teacher feedback

Site dedicated to teaching and learning with digital media, from faculty, librarians, students and staff at New School. Tool Kit suggests resources for different areas of digital learning.

Tool for creating interactive web pages for eLearning courses

A citation creation tool built by David Warlick and the Landmark Project, 2000. It "is part of the Landmark for Schools Web site for teachers." The tool helps students create citations that are formatted correctly.

Posted on website ClassTools.net, this tool helps instructors (and others) to select names from their class list at random. No creator name (or date) is given.

This website,created by the Clinton RESA, Ingham ISD, Macomb ISD & Shiawassee RESD, offers 21 technology concepts (e.g. blogs, digital citizenship, online video resources) that teachers might want to incorporate into their classrooms. While the site is aimed at K-12 teachers, it is likely that teachers at all levels can find something worthwhile here. NOTE: the site was built in 2008; in the fast-moving 2.0 world, there might be tools that are since out of date.

Batson argues that, though the e-Portfolio movement seems to have gained some traction in recent years, the technology offerings are still inadequate, and the rate of successful adoption and integration is also low. He introduces a new organization, the Association for Authentic, Experiential, and Evidence-Based Learning (AAEEBL), a professional association that focuses on e-Portfolios.
