This appears to facilitate scaling and the design and development of online instruction while maintaining the quality and integrity of the courses. Course design and development become more manageable when they are translated into repeatable processes and easy-to-apply tools.

I agree with all the above, including the poor color choice, however ... am I the only once feeling daunted and this point? I am beginning to wonder if it takes a certain "type" of faculty member to create an appropriate online course - someone who can think and manage in multiple platforms, constantly, both synchronously and asynchronously!! Assessments should reveal how well students have learned what we want them to learn while instruction ensures that they learn it. For this to occur, assessments, learning objectives, and instructional strategies need to be closely aligned so that they reinforce one another.

This paper reports the findings of a case study in which audio feedback replaced text-based feedback in asynchronous courses. Previous research has demonstrated that participants in online courses can build effective learning communities through text based communication alone. Written in 2006, the author shares his tips and tricks for reducing instructor workload after teaching both online and hybrid courses. Two useful tips the author shared are: 1) to create a reference list and share links to references as applicable in each learning module, and 2) to setup appropriate assessments when developing course assignments (such as mixing instructor, peer, and self-assessments) to help instructor manage workload assessment per student.

This short article comes from the Chronicle of Higher Education. It is part of the ongoing research around MOOCs. This article deals with the management of a MOOC. I hope to create an online class for Candler that will also serve as a MOOC. This will contribute to the learning of how each is different. In December 2013 a group of academics gathered during a Texas snowstorm and began the second phase of a discussion about massive open online courses. They were not terribly impressed by the hype the courses had received in the popular media, and they had set out to create a better body of literature about MOOCs-albeit a less sensational one.
