The Literacy Shed - The Literacy Shed Home - 2 views

  • The Literacy Shed is home to a wealth of visual resources that I have collected over my 10 year career as a primary school teacher.   I trawl youtube, vimeo and other sites looking for suitable resources to use in the sheds. The sheds are broadly thematic but sometimes a resource could go in 2 or more sheds, I slot it in where I think it works best.

Grade 2 teachers and Khamal just email Tom to add your ideas. Even if you put in some of the games you have used. Just adding to the community.

For Grade 2 teachers and Khamal, you might want to add somethings to this. Just email Tom Barret if you want to contribute. He has many of these 'interesting ways' presentations. Great source of classroom ideas

: Netbooks, Notebooks, and Smartbooks - 0 views

  • I agree. I presented to a Board of Trustees meeting here in NZ last night about this. The BOT wanted to buy IWBs for each classroom - high-end ones at up to $7000 NZ a piece. I showed them some of the research and white papers and then showed them what they could buy as an alternative - being a lot of netbooks giving individual kids a load more power - be interesting to see what they do. One BOT member asked me if schools are now obsolete. My response was that schools are not obsolete but their walls are.

Create floor plans, house plans and home plans online with Floorplanner.com - 0 views

This looks interesting. Would be suited to the advanced level 3 and 4 student wanting to go further than the usual 'design your own bedroom" or draw a floor plan of your dream bedroom.

This is a great post on how to guide students to write powerful comments. Something that I think we should start concentrating on now that we have the blogging thing up and running.

Edheads - Simple Machines Activities - Lever - Pulley - Wedge - Screw - Inclined Plane ... - 0 views

  •
Interactive site on simple and compound machines (It lists "gears" as a simple machine, which is the only place where I have seen this, as everywhere else just has the traditional 6 simple machines. Likewise, some of the examples of various machines are a bit tenuous, but it is a fun site, nonetheless)

Scribble Maps - Draw on google maps with scribblings and more! - 0 views

This looks like a handy tool for maps lessons. You can do all this in google earth but having the drawing tools over laid at the top of the screen is very handy and quite user friendly for students.
