Netflix stock dropped 11% in Septembe and is expected to lose 50% of it's value for the month. This comes after a lot of bad business decisions including a price hike and renaming it's DVD service Qwikster.

BlackBerry users in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, and other parts of the world have been stuck without BlackBerry Messenger and internet access for over two days now. RIM did promise customers in a message via Twitter that the service had been restored yesterday, however, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Why use DevCon Americas next week in San Francisco to announce to your community that BlackBerry Messenger is going cross-platform? BBM is arguably BlackBerry's most attractive selling point - I'd say the sheer addictiveness of their messaging-centric OS and awesome physical keyboards are right up there. If RIM opens BBM up to Android and iOS, the very platforms who've been kicking their butts over the past 24 months, will anyone still want to buy a piece of BlackBerry hardware?

Following the September launch of Twitter ads in the U.K., Twitter is now bringing its advertising products known as "Promoted Tweets," "Promoted Trends" and "Promoted Accounts" to its Japanese version of the service Twitter.jp. According to a post on the official Twitter Japan blog, the rollout began earlier this month.

Late Friday evening, I tweeted out that, for some reason unbeknownst to me, Google's Web History tracking "feature" (the one that keeps tabs on every search you've made for sake of tailoring ads to your tastes and/or creeping you out) had seemingly been enabled on my account. This wouldn't be too strange in most cases - as an opt-out service, Web History is enabled for everyone by default. The problem? I'd manually disabled it years ago.

Car sharing network company Zipcar this morning announced the release of a Facebook application that allows its members to 'reserve their wheels' on the popular social networking site without having to leave it.

Zipcar is a program similar to a rental car program there cars are being shared between people, so that they can go about their daily lives with their own mode of transportation. This company has just stepped up their game by adding their services to their Facebook members. This application lets members check for car availability and can change/make reservations.

Netflix has lost over 800,000 users after announcing a 60%price hike, and the numbers keep growing. Never fear, though, because there are alternatives to Netflix that are even better! New York City has decided on replacing most of their pay phones with 32 inch touchscreen phones. These phones would be used for anything like Skype and other video services, email, wi-fi access, and *11 numbers. Most people don't know how to react to this change. Tourists would find it very helpful, but regular pay phone users would be very confused. Something that they had been used to using for so many years would now be replaced by something more high-tech. Also, many people in nyc have smartphones, so they wouldn't have any use for them. If anything, one could say that this new installation would be more for the tourists than the residents of the city.

Facebook buys instagram for 1 billion dollars. I believe they bought it because they see the potential of making more money and because it is exploding and a lot of people are buying it, it could make even more than 1 billion dollars.

Today, AllThingsD announced that the Facebook HTC phone is really coming. It's called Buffy, and is expected to arrive in the next 12-18 months. It is "planned to run on a modified version of Android that Facebook has tweaked heavily to deeply integrate its services, as well as to support HTML5 as a platform for applications, according to sources familiar with the project."

Facebook is not the most secure site for your private information, and it's about to get a whole lot worse. At F8, the event in which Facebook makes announcements about upcoming improvements to the site, it was announced that the company wants to "extend the site". This means integrating this social network into just about everything you do online, which was once done by AOL, and we can see how popular that service is today.

The Kindle Fire could be the first truly successful Android tablet. It touts a very reasonable $200 price tag, a well-curated app store, easy access to Amazons cloud-based services, brand trust and recognition. It's Amazon's most ambitious foray into hardware since the original Kindle's debut.

While the United States' largest video game specific retail chain is not ready to announce specifics regarding hardware, GameStop has confirmed with GamesIndustry.biz that they have selected a tablet for their game streaming service. This GameStop branded device is already a pre-existing unit, though from which company and what model they would not say. However, it is running a version of the Android OS.
