We would like to combine as many of these log files as possible and thus visualize how people travel all over the world, how they live and work, go on vacation, meet at conferences, festivals etc ... It is just one huge geo social networking experiment.

It's now a little over 6 months into 2010, so a good time to reflect on the highlights of the year so far. At the beginning of the year, we identified some key trends to track: (in alphabetical order) Augmented Reality, Internet of Things, Mobile, Real-Time Web, Structured Data.

Do have a look as the originals if you would like some more background information. For the purposes of this presentation, I took the opportunity to clean up the content and add a few new details.

The trouble with Creative Commons, and with copyright in general, is that the rights are focused solely on the needs and interests of the copyright owner, and is silent regarding the situation of the user. Even the common conditions for exemption under fair dealing (that the use is non-commercial, that it is educational, that it is transformative, etc.) there is no reference to the situation of the user, beyond the specific terms of use of the material.

No longer from the furniture store, but with a download from a website, design goods take the form of a digital blueprint that the consumer takes to the local manufacturer for customizable on-demand production.   In collaboration with Waag Society, Droog is working with a network of designers, digital distributors, manufacturers and material suppliers to develop new business models and product designs for Downloadable design. Through a world wide platform for design distribution two pilots will be implemented to test the developed models and designs.   Possible benefits include lower product costs, less transport and less waste, new design concepts, more variation, possibility of co-creation, lower investment due to no warehousing, more responsive production chains, and involvement of the consumer in the design outcome. Not only for day-to-day goods, Downloadable design can play a role in global urgencies.   Currently we are in the design and development phase, look out for further announcements soon.

Google will capture the chatter about it in real-time from sources such as Twitter, Yahoo Answers, news media and Facebook. The inclusion of Facebook () in this list of real-time sources is one of the most important aspects of today’s announcements, and it is something that could have major implications for Twitter and its ambitions to become the world’s water cooler. In fact, Facebook held back the opportunity to deal a heavy hit to its microblogging rival. But why?

In other words, if users do wind up sharing far more than they intended to, Facebook can’t do much to repair the damage. Will this have a major impact on Facebook’s success? Probably not. But people may no longer perceive it as a private site, which is what made it popular in the first place.

There are so many issues in the social realm that this list could be endless, but I chose the 12 most important items to work on in social media in 2010. As you may know, there is no right answer in social media; each company is different, but each of these points can be adjusted for any company.

To us, this seems to be just the beginning of a major move by Twitter to reach out and find new users, wherever they may be. Twitter was able to grow at a rapid clip for the first half of this year, but since then has hit a growth ceiling that it’s been unable to solve. It makes sense to give people the ability to sign up through other popular websites and apps. While Citysearch is the only one using the Sign-Up API currently, they certainly won’t be a last.
