Blogging about blogging. - learning with #etmooc - 4 views

A really well written post on some things we should consider about blogging. She based her post on her own experience with blogging and the work of Sue Waters, a professional educ. blogger and trainer for Edublogs. Here are some questions she asks: Who should be writing for? What is the benefit? Is it important to read others work and comment? I think if you read this post, you will be encouraged.

"Reimagining a Library Without Printed Books: One Year Later at Cushing Academy" - 2 views

SLJ Summit 2010: Tom Corbett, Cushing Academy on Vimeo - several interesting points, including seeing the library as not so much as the repository, but the portal to books, information and training users in digital literacy, which is a new skill set. I liked his illustration re: what is must've been like when the transition going from the horse-drawn cart and the first automobile took place, and the similarities with print to digital, etc.

Great way to use a blog as an online resume. Margaret has done an exemplary job in her curation of her blog. Great to show for career classes & business. I'm thinking about starting to do something like that for myself!

Tweet Thine Enemy : Education Next - 2 views

  • Yet amidst the flood of words and images, we information consumers are adapting in a predictable, if unsettling, way: migrating toward sources that share our underlying biases and prejudices, which is leading to less real dialogue and inevitably to greater polarization.

      Echo Chamber...
  • “We generally don’t truly want good information—but rather information that confirms our prejudices. We may believe intellectually in the clash of opinions, but in practice we like to embed ourselves in the reassuring womb of an echo chamber.”
  • a schism between the policy community on the one hand and practitioners on the other.

  • Want to be part of the solution? You might start by following on Twitter people whose views you abhor and staying open to the possibility that they might, nevertheless, have a few smart things to say.
