Chih-Hsiung Tu on 21 Apr 09Common Question I: Effective Instructional Strategies Please discuss three most effective instructional strategies integrated in your project. Please be sure to justify why they are effective instructional strategies. Remember instructional strategies are not your contents or "technologies," such as wiki, discussion board etc. It is the integrated soft technologies.

Phil Howardell on 25 Apr 09I believe the most effective instructional strategy for this activity was the constructivist approach I used to the activity. I lead a very brief discussion on how teams are formed and what norms are. Students had to research the concepts of teams and norms to be able to write their own norms that fit their team and personality. It was effective because, in general, the outcome, the Team Norms document my students posted on their web page, was of high quality, would be effective at helping to manage the team, and my students seemed to be engaged and took the activity seriously

Common Question II: Instructional Technology Please discuss the instructional technologies that you integrate into your lesson plan exclude your web sites/pages because they are the basic technology. Instructional technology is referred to hard technology in this question, such as discussion board, chat, wiki, blog etc.
-
To complete this activity, students had to use the Internet to research team norms, answer questions and email them to me. They then used the website that was set up as a wiki to post their draft of the team norms, and their teammates at other schools would jointly edit the document until all reached agreement. The Website/wiki is part of Google Docs which allows for collaborative editing of documents.
-
Don't forget to check the wiki history to see how the contetns were edited. It should give some ideas that they did collaboration or cooperations.

Common Question III: Pitfalls Do you think your web-based lesson plan is effective and successful? Can you foresee any pitfalls in project? Please describe them.
-
This plan has been implemented and completed 1 week ago. I found that my students took the assignment very seriously; they completed their research and answered the questions thoughtfully. They were enthusiastic about the online communications part and posted their draft quickly. The problem was the students at the other school were not as disciplined as mine and their collaboration was not very effective not conducive to the assignment. That will always be a problem as I cannot control students on the teams in other schools.
-
Do you students from the other sites were not used to collaboration or something else?
-
Chih-If I understand your question correctly, the team members from the other school were able to access the site as they are in the same district. So all collaboration for this project is done on the Google site I set up.

This is another well done page, leaving me in realization how feeble my skills are with technology of this nature. What an excellent concept to introduce the global team concept, something they may very well be doing in the future. All the links work, they secondary sites are excellent sources. Educate me if you will on which program was used to generate your project.

Thanks for the great review. I used Dreamweaver.
