As much as I love the idea of doing 'project based learning' in my class, most of the value is lost if it only exists in one class. This video does a great job of describing what's needed to really make PBL worth the time and effort.
A laptop connected to the internet may provide the ultimate distraction, but they may also provide the ultimate will power aids. You wouldn't blame a hammer for smashing your thumb - let's use these things well.
I'd be on board with that, how do we generate some momentum. I've used this myself and with a few students in the past for tutoring and it works really well.
Not that I'm looking for another thing to add to my to do list, but I think a system like this would really help improve our awareness of each others teaching styles as well as make integration much easier as well. If anyone else is interested, perhaps we could pilot with a few volunteers next year?
Whether you're familiar with Wolfram Alpha or not you will likely find this interesting. They are developing apps for every class which are designed to help make challenging real world content much more accessible. Seems to be limited to apple products right now...
