Even though this article is long, only a portion of it directly discusses television and literacy. The article showed that children who watched more than two hours of television had behavioral issues, such as not being able to sit still or pay attention for an extended period during their adolescence. However, it did not prove to be of significance in older years.

In this study, parents from the Texas Parent teacher association are surveyed on how much they would support an increase in their property taxes to pay for financial literacy classes in their children's schools. It is a very interesting way to look at people's view of financial literacy, and looking ar parent's view on the topic is very important because often the same values are enstilled in their children.

The author states that children instinctively understand music. She believes since both music and reading are im portant that they should be used in combination to teach literacy. Using evidence from the Mozart effect studies, she stress the importance of music in education

The author reports on the study "To Read or Not to Read," which was released by the United States National Endowment for the Arts. The study found that Americans read less in 2007 compared with previous years. The study found that reading abilities for teenagers and adults have declined, whereas reading abilities for younger children have increased. The impact which the decline in reading abilities has had on American workers is discussed. The author states that the amount of time which people read on a daily basis has declined. An experiment using music to teach English-as-a-second langauge to elementary aged children. All the students were native Spanish-speaking first graders. The author explains how the students are expected to learn Spanish writing and reading first but then switch to an English curriculum. She used songs and music to help them transition to English. In this article, the authors hypothesis that music perception skills are linked to early reading skills in children. Using a test group of 100 4- and 5-year-olds, they discovered that while there were differences in the age groups that overall their hypothesis was well supported. Their research shows that music perception is directly related to reading skills and phonological awareness but that In the 4-year-olds, musical ability was the link to reading, while in the 5-year-olds, pitch processing was the link. Teachers combine visual literacy with drama in order for students to make personal connections and to easier comprehend literature; this ultimately proved to provide children with a better understanding.

This NYT article is about how the way we refer to and treat the elderly (calling them "dear" or speaking loudly to them, for example) can affect their health. Such studies have broader ranging implications. When we call others derogatory names, can it affect their health? Does using "baby talk" affect the language development of children? Do our assumptions about teenagers affect their intellectual development?

The National Institute for Literacy serves as a national resource for adult education and literacy programs, coordinates literacy services and policy, and provides leadership for literacy in the United States. The Institute disseminates information on scientifically based reading research pertaining to children, youth, and adults as well as information about development and implementation of classroom reading programs based on the research. This article involves the teaching of children a specific structure of music and how being able to integrate songs and proper music technique into the classroom is beneficial to literacy

This article starts off explaining brief history on the Mozart Effect and how it influence the way the mind and music connect together. Will Dowd, the author, also goes on explaining Don Campbell, who wrote the "The Mozart Effect or Children". Dowd uses an example for Campbell's book explaining " Mozart's music enhance the network of connection forming in the infant brain." Towards the end of the article, Dowd explain how there are scientists out there that feel that the Mozart Effect is ineffective.
