This painting is of peasant family sitting around a dinner table eating potatoes. Van Gogh relates to the poor very weel, because believe it or not while he was alive he was not financially stable. He uses dark colors and their is one light of a lamp, which is supposed to, "explore the relationship between the cycles of nature and rural life."
