Revealed: US spy operation that manipulates social media | Technology | The Guardian - 0 views

  •
The US military is developing software that will let it secretly manipulate social media sites by using fake online personas to influence internet conversations and spread pro-American propaganda. A Californian corporation has been awarded a contract with United States Central Command (Centcom), which oversees US armed operations in the Middle East and Central Asia, to develop what is described as an "online persona management service" that will allow one US serviceman or woman to control up to 10 separate identities based all over the world. The project has been likened by web experts to China's attempts to control and restrict free speech on the internet. Critics are likely to complain that it will allow the US military to create a false consensus in online conversations, crowd out unwelcome opinions and smother commentaries or reports that do not correspond with its own objectives

Same sex marriage - 0 views

  •
This is one of the largest growing controversies in the United States. We have a lot of stubborn and close-minded people in this great nation. We all just need to open our hearts a little and accept these people and try to realize where they are coming from. They just want to be able to be happy like anyone would; and be able to marry the one that they love. People say it goes against tradition, and what marriage is valued as...between a man & woman. There are so many traditions that have been changed or forgotten in this day and age, and I am sure that letting these people marry who they want and where they want, isn't going to lead to something horrible. I think that some of us just need to really be educated and try to feel for these people who just want the opportunity to solidify their love for one another with Marraige.

This is an article about same sex marriage showing how still today people are fighting for the right to marry whom ever they choose man or woman. As State after state seem to slowly gain support and pass the law allowing same sex marriage there are some who still chose to not let go and favor an amendment to the United States Constitution to forbid it. This is one subject that tends to divide this country.
  •

Eninem Lyrics-Drug Ballad - 0 views

  •
While there are some parts that seem to show that doing drugs is a bad idea it is mainly most of the following: As ecstasy got me standing next to you, Getting sentimental as fuck spillin' guts to you We just met But I think I'm in love with you But you're on it too So you tell me you love me too Wake up in the morning like "yo, what the fuck we do?" I gotta go bitch You know I have stuff to do 'Cause if I get caught cheatin' then I'm stuck with you But in the long run These drugs are probably going to catch up sooner or later But fuck it, I'm on one So let's enjoy Let the X destroy your spinal cord

What is Religious Freedom? - 0 views

  •
I have never really known the true definition of religious freedom until I looked at this sight. It defines it in what I believe layman's terms. Most people these days have religious tolerance, meaning people don't care what religion a person is as long as they don't bring it out into the public.

Timeline of Marriage - 0 views

  •
Marriage, as we know it today, was not always about finding true love. Instead, it was used for socioeconomic power and to build family rapport. It's hard to imagine that prior to 1967, it was illegal for a man and a woman of different races to get married.

Summary of New Health Reform Law - 0 views

  •
This article is very staightforward. It provides the nitty gritty details of the new healthcare law in manageable chunks. Not only does this article summarize the law, it also plugs in numerical values to paint a picture of what PPACA is intended to do and how it affects the employee, employer (small and large), and government.

Study: Amnesty Will Boost U.S. Economy - 0 views

  •
By granting Amnesty to 12 million Illegal Immigrants it will boast our economy by adding $329 billion to our nation. It would help create 1.4 million new jobs for our fellow American over the next few decades. According to the "DREAM Act" it will help illegal immigrants find a pathway to become a U.S. Citizen according to this study.
  •
thats pretty cool. I mean the way they are setting up "pathways" for these people to eventually be granted their citizenship or at lease temporary work authorizations in order to also help boost our economies currency.

New York soda ban - 1 views

  •
Individuals should be able to consume as much soda as they want. I think that there should be more education about how drinking soda in excess can lead to obesity. Maybe warning labels on soda to remind people of the effects of drinking sugary beverages. I think it is then up to each individual to make the decision of how much soda they consume.

I get why this is being done, but if they do ban the soda. Some people are seriously addicted to soda. Could this also turn ugly and people start selling it like if it was a drug?
  •
I think that one has the right to consume as much soda as they wish. Its a personal choice that should not be governed.
  •
I total understand the ban, since most Americans don't pay attention to the main ingredient in soda which is "high fructose corn syrup". Research has shown high fructose corn syrup is as addictive as cocaine yet there are no laws regulating the use and quantity of it in food and beverages. High consumption of high fructose corn syrup has been proven to cause obesity and diabetes. There's not enough public education regarding this ingredient to enable consumers to make intelligent choices when consuming beverages and lobbyist lobby the government to make sure it stays this way.
  •
I think this ban is ridiculous controlling the amount of soda and sweetened drinks people consume is wrong. Although sugary drinks can be detrimental to health, people have the right to control and live their own lives according to what they think is best. I like how this article has statistics and shows how many people don't agree with this outrageous ban.

Should there be a military draft? by John T. Reed - 0 views

  •
This is a good article on why America should have a military draft. It talks about how if we had a military draft you wouldn't just see poor people joining to fight wars as a means of income. Everyone would have to fight, rich, or poor. It also reduce the amount of wars if all families rich and poor had the chance of loosing their children. Then we might rethink these wars. It gives a number of other good reasons our country should have a draft too.

Physician-Assisted Suicide - Introduction - 1 views

  •
This website discusses the issue of physician-assisted suicide. It explores the ethics of such an act, as well as the proliferation of such requests. It offers the opinion that doctors must respect the patient's wishes not to endure life-prolonging treatments that do little to help the patient's quality of life. However, it does not advocate nor denigrate assisted suicide.

The Right to Commit Suicide - 1 views

  •
In this article, there are many things that are debated when it comes to whether or not a person has the right to take their own life. Like spiritual beliefs to it being the individual right of a person as it falls under human rights. Those are the two many debates when it come down to being for it or making sure it stays illegal.

The Ethics of In Vitro Fertilization - 0 views

  •
My conception of ethically permissible behavior is based on the view that any decision is ethically permitted if it is voluntary and does not cause gratuitous harm to others. This is congruent with the early ethical stricture in medicine, Primum non nocere, "First, do no harm." However, our perception of harm must be qualified. A living being can be harmed without being harmed in a moral sense. I harm a mosquito when I swat it, but I do not harm it in a moral sense unless I assign a moral absolute value to the mosquito's well-being. To be harmed in a moral sense is to be wronged. Thus, my concern is with behavior that does or does not wrong another.

Why Airport Security is broken and how to fix it. - 1 views

  •
published Aprl. 15, 2012 ; how the TSA can elimate the banned item list and become a little more fluid in the items they disallow to carry.
  •
It is broke. I think we should look at the way Israel handles their airport security.
  •
I looked up how Israel handles with airport security & find this news article: http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/explainer/2011/01/whats_so_great_about_israeli_security.html Sadly, I was not aware of Israel's security. However, I relate to this a great deal since this past May & June I went to Afghanistan - and I was traveling with an Afghan citizen. I understand why they would be more cautious. Our coming back flight stopped in Dubai and we expected to have problems coming into the USA, but we also faced issues in Amsterdam. We were questioned a little longer than the other people - almost missed the flight because of it, twice - in Amsterdam & in the USA to coming to Phoenix. However, it did not bother us - we knew we would face issues. I don't even know how many times I was x-rayed - or how much time we spent talking to officials a little longer than everyone else and it happened everywhere we stopped, not only in the USA! I agree with these terms of not being so strict when leaving the USA, but coming back I could understand why the security was a little tighter.

Welfare Drug Testing - 1 views

  •
This site is about how some leaders feel about this new legislation on drug testing for welfare. Most leaders agree and want to incorporate it into their own state laws.
  •
This article describes how some legislators are trying to pass drug testing for TANF applicates. Florida has already passed the law and feel that it is unfair for taxpayers to subsidize drug addictions. I am a firm believer in this and think that it should be mandated.

Regulating Eugenics - 0 views

  •
Despite how people feel about eugenics whether it be that it is morally wrong or unnecessary they United States will always be faced with this issue of how to regulate it. For many years people have tried to eugenics under wraps so nothing can be done with it, but as we all know there are loop holes and where there is a will there is a way, and people have found ways around them and thus gotten genetic engineering regulated. *Unfortunately the group who wrote it chose to not reveal an author sadly so hard for a bibliography.
