Eugenics - 0 views

  •
In the 1970's Virginia decided to repeal the law of involuntary sterilization. The people who had volunteered prior to 1970 were undedicated and very poor. The victims were never compensated for their time or for what they underwent. Despite the fact that the United States does not widely acknowledge eugenics people are still pushing for the "perfect" human being.

Regulating Eugenics - 0 views

  •
Despite how people feel about eugenics whether it be that it is morally wrong or unnecessary they United States will always be faced with this issue of how to regulate it. For many years people have tried to eugenics under wraps so nothing can be done with it, but as we all know there are loop holes and where there is a will there is a way, and people have found ways around them and thus gotten genetic engineering regulated. *Unfortunately the group who wrote it chose to not reveal an author sadly so hard for a bibliography.

Future human evolution: eugenics in the twenty-first century - 0 views

In order for a scientist in genetic engineering to end sufferings from children and adults they would have to continuously breed out the non-desired trait. Meaning this would take many years of a long and tedious process. In other words if you wanted the odds at 0.01 you would need to breed the trait out through 90 generations. To have a one in one million chance it would take 900 generations. That is not the desired time the scientist were hoping for as well as the population. This book is 136 pages so i did only give an exert from a paragraph that really stuck out to me.

Gun Control Debate - 0 views

  •
This is just about an age old debate about the 2nd amendment, the right to bear arms, and about the public's safety. Honestly who should be allowed to own a gun and how good are the regulations on that? People fear that their will be a rise in crimes. Maybe they are right, maybe not. Some see it as protecting themselves and their family.

Censorship and Book Banning in America - 0 views

  •
This article breaks down why drugs should not be legalized. One of the main issues being that they are illegal and harmful and that's why they are illegal already. The government is looking out for you and some people should learn when to say "no". This gives 10 nicely detailed facts on why it should not be legalized and it is very informative.

Everyday books are being banned from school because a particular parent did not like a topic in the book or a certain word. In this case the article discusses an 11th grade class reading the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and a mother called up demanding they stop reading it because she did not want her son reading the "N" word. At what point where do we draw the line at censorship in school and just let the kids learn?
  •
That sounds really interesting. I'll have to look into it. Never knew the school had that class.

How SOPA/PIPA Can Affect You - 0 views

  •
PIPA is short for Protect IP Act and SOPA is short for Stop Online Piracy Act. They are both really big issues facing our world today. Many people are taking things illegally such as music, movies, software, and et cetera without paying for it. And now the government as well as the people who made all those things are fed up. For years people have tried to stop the hackers and now they are trying again. Will it work? Who knows.

How to Do Animal Rights - Animal Rights - 0 views

  •
Giving animals rights is about protecting them since they cannot speak up for themselves. We are their voice. We should not go around harming them or beating them. Some people have pets in their house and it amazes me how people can adopt an animal and then go and abuse them. They did not ask to be adopted by you to have you do that to them. They can feel, and they deserve to be happy and live their one life.

SmackDown: Would You Publicly Punish Your Child? - 0 views

  •
when does punishing your child go to far? This is an article about a parent humiliating and shamming her son publicly. The first one by Jessica Samakow talks about a young man who was failing and the mother puts him out in public announcing his GPA and asking if he needs education. That is just down right embarrassing. Then when you though the mother could not go any further she did. She made her son stand on the street again but this time with his grades posted. There is punishing and then there is just abuse and humiliation that no person deserves.

Health Care at the Crossroads: Personal Freedom or Government Control? - 0 views

  •
What does the future hold for us in health care? Many people such as myself and maybe you wonder if there should be a new health care plan or if we should stay with the old. This article talks about the health care issues from the perspective of two individuals, John Shadegg, and Mark McClellan. They speak on behalf of all groups of people. Very interesting article about how some cannot afford insurance.
