    This article describes how some legislators are trying to pass drug testing for TANF applicates. Florida has already passed the law and feel that it is unfair for taxpayers to subsidize drug addictions. I am a firm believer in this and think that it should be mandated.

    This is great idea but I have to agree that it is an invasion of privacy. Also stereotyping. If you drug test all welfare applicants then it is part of the process, just as you are drug tested for employment. I agree that many abuse the system but not because they are drug users but because they know how to get away with it.

    This short article shows a bill that passed in Kentucky to start testing for illegal drugs to get state assistance such as food stamps or any cash assistant programs.  Positive testing results will not be given to police, but will cause the applicant to be ineligible. Also they must be tested yearly.

    Oklahoma recently signed a new bill stating that all new applicants for welfare are required to submit a drug test. Children and underage parents will not have to submit to a drug screen. Applicants who fail the test are able to get drug treatment and reapply in 6 months.
