'Stop and Frisk' Stirs Up, Rather than Deters, Youth Crime | TIME.com - 0 views

  •
"Law enforcement reminders of the consequences of criminal behavior are supposed to curb illegal activity, but some of these intimidation strategies may be backfiring, especially among youth. In the latest study of stop and frisk policies, in which law enforcement randomly stop individuals for questioning even if they aren't engaged in criminal activity, researchers found that those who were stopped were more likely than those who were not to engage in delinquent behavior later on."

What are "Stand Your Ground" Laws? - 0 views

  •
The Stand Your Ground Laws provide the right to self protection in the event of emergencies. This set of laws provides security to individual citizens seeking protection for themselves and their loved ones;while providing an outlet to the would-be criminal persecution that ensues following a controversial arms related incident. The victim in question will be protected from criminal persecution under theses laws, and the perpetrator will be tried and treated as such. States lacking in these laws require citizens to be subject to deadly force and simply hope for the best when faced against criminal/ harmful actions on their own property.

The real mental health issue behind gun violence - CNN.com - 1 views

  •
By focusing on certain categories of mental illness researchers say federal gun law overlooks those at greater risk of violence. The government believes that it is very important that they keep guns away from the mentally ill individuals in our society.
  •
Those with mental illness are shown to have a higher risk of acting out violent crimes (specifically with the use of a gun). However, this is not the case all of the time due to the fact that there are still an abundant amount of shootings each year where the criminal(s) behind the weapon do not have any mental illnesses. We should be looking into the psychological factors of the criminals behind the gun, but also doing more extensive background checks and setting stricter limitations on who is able to purchase/receive guns.

Living in Phoenix means you must be very familiar with this type of stuff. No matter what Home Depot you go to in the valley you see armies of immigrants on the curb looking for day work. This is where the problem needs to start being addressed when businesses hire these illegals just to save a buck.

Facial Recognition Technology Raises Privacy Issues - 1 views

Many business are using new technology such as biometric finger scans and facial recognition to make sure employees are free of criminal history and are allowed to have computer access. People are concerned about the privacy issues that go along with facial recognition. Once the business gets a facial scan they can look up other personal information such as phone numbers, social network accounts, and home address.
  •
I had a friend once that worked for a hardware store. He told me that the place had a camera by the front door with facial recognition. He was told that was so that they knew if ex-employees came back into the store. I'm not sure what they had to worry about, and I thought that was very unusual.

I feel a lot of deja vu reading this article. It's the same old song and dance and none of them have learned that as United States citizens, we like our guns; and we will not be separated from them. Criminals do not follow laws, more gun control is useless without reinforcing the statutes already in place.
