State bill 1180 became law, and now citizens in Arizona may carry concealed weapons without obtaining a permit. Governor Brewer quickly signed this bill after Governor Napolitano resigned to take over as secretary of US Homeland Security. This law also requires that when asked by law enforcement, gun owners must accurately answer if asked about a concealed weapon.

Some freedoms may come at the expense of others. It is being said now, by ATF and federal law, that anyone who is known to be using or addicted to any drug that is illegal under federal, not state law, cannot purchase a weapon. This includes individuals who are medicinally using marijuana. Laws are still unclear as to what the consequences are for not admitting to using the drug when purchasing a weapon.

California prop. 215 was passed in 1996, by a 56% vote, legalizing medicinal marijuana. Now, some dispensaries in California are being shut down by the cities they are operating in. Attorneys in the case fighting for the dispensary owners are saying, "cities have the right to regulate... but they do not have the right to ban what the voters said is legal."

As states across the country continued to ban gay marriages and civil unions, the census revealed some strange information: The number of same-sex partnerships jumped, even in the most conservative states. 646 thousand + gay coupled claimed they lived together in the 2010 census, an increase of 80% compared to 2000. more than 131,000 gay couples identified themselves as husbands or wives, which is a ratio of 1 in 5 couples.

President Obama was urged this week to come out for gay marriage in his address to the Human Rights Campaign. Obama didn't exactly say he supported gay marriage, but some things were implied. He cited NY's marriage law as a triumph of democratic change
