I'm not sure if this is a web2.0 tool, but I found this site interesting. Original ideas, knowledge, projects, music, videos, and etc. can be shared with others. The authors of these tools can claim licenses on this site to protect their work. In addition, the site provides users with millions of videos, songs, content, academic activities etc. that you can legally use for free.
  •
I am not sure if its Web 2.0 either, although I suspect not, but its awesome. Indespensible. Thanks for sharing.

This is a repeat! Sorry! Vanessa posted this earlier in the course.

Changing the Default to Support Open Access to Education Research (Roehrig, 2018) - 2 views

  •
This article was featured today on Facebook of FSU COE. Dr. Roehrig talk about the factors underlying the underutilization of Open Access (OA) to make education research literature freely available online.
  •
Hi, Hajeen. I look forward to reading the article, but at the moment just playing with the Diigo features!
  •
As both a researcher and an editor, I can say that it's a very complicated issue. I'm looking forward to reading the article, too.

Role of the educator in social software initiatives in further and higher education: A ... - 2 views

Thought this article might be of interest to you -- especially as we consider Web 2.0 and formal learning. You can get it from the FSU library if you're logged in. If you don't know how to log in for distance library access, look at the top right of the library home page for the link. Ask Vanessa or Shuang if you need help.

Categorising teachers' use of social media for their professional learning: A self-gene... - 8 views

if you're off campus, you can access this article via the FSU library -- just log in there first.

As I see the word 'categorizing' I just wanted to read the article. The author states that expert ICT teachers engage in social media activities in different ways based on their conceptualization of 'professional learning.' I think this article requires careful, slow reading. It is a little bit intense for me! :-)

Using Twitter as a data source an overview of social media research tools (2021) | Impa... - 5 views

  • Fast-forward to 2021, and something big has happened within the social media research space. Twitter has released a new product track, the ‘academic research product track’. This allows academic researchers free access to the complete archive of historical public tweets (by historical data we mean tweets posted in the past). This is significant news because for many researchers without a large budget or with limited time, historical data has until now been out of reach.

This is interesting! It can be difficult to access to tweets more than a week even through paid services. I want to explore this and see how it works.

This blog post introduces tools for social media analytics (particularly Twitter). Some of them may support cross platform analysis (not just Twitter). Have you played with any of them before? I've explored TAGS and Socioviz just a little bit.

When I say … microlearning - PMC - 5 views

  • One of the barriers to the application of microlearning has been the lack of a consistent clear operational definition to guide instructors
  • Microlearning is short.
  • Microlearning focuses on a single learning objective.
  • ...4 more annotations...
  • Microlearning resources are most commonly and effectively delivered via digital technology (but microlearning is not defined by technology).
  • Microlearning can be achieved on the go when the learner wants it or needs it.
  • The Internet‐connected smartphone is a major driver of microlearning because it provides access to learning on the go (i.e. mobile learning) and is nearly always accessible to most people.
  • Microlearning on Web 2.0 applications also offers the benefit of a collaborative learning space.
  •
This is an interesting concept, I had not heard of microlearning before today. It sounds like there is some merit to it, based on this article, but I do wonder how easy it could be to use ineffectively in terms of corporate trainings. I worry it could be easy to see low cost numbers and embrace the concept without ensuring learning gains are still taking place.

Edmodo | Where Learning Happens | Sign up, Sign In - 0 views

Edmodo provides a safe and easy way for your class to connect and collaborate, share content, and access homework, grades and school notices. The goal is to help educators harness the power of social media to customize the classroom for each and every learner. Seems like it may be a better alternative than using Facebook in the classroom to make sure privacy issues are not a problem.

Matt Damon's Most Recent AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit - 2 views

  •
Reddit is quite popular, though many people don't connect with it. It has a devoted user base that is often less friendly to outsiders. I think this is part of the appeal for people that do use it. Here is something that I think is accessible for others. The AMA's (Ask me Anything) can be really interesting. Matt Damon has some really interesting answers that go beyond stand surface-level answers. The comments based on his answers are part of the fun of reading it. For anyone who checked out Reddit and didn't care for it, I think this a good for giving a taste of what reddit can be.

I love this tool. It does have a collaboration and sharing feature, but I'm not quite sure if it web 2.0. What are your thoughts?
  •
Gliffy is great! I'm a TA in a web design class and the students use it to diagram their web pages before they start on their project. Really simple to use.
  •
Gliffy looks awesome! Wish I had known about it in the beginning of the summer. I would have used in it my trends and issues class. There's still a couple more weeks of class, so I may get my chance. If not, I'm sure it will come in handy for a future class.
  •
This is really cool. I stumbled on Webspriation PRO and used that for this weeks assignment which is similar to this. Does this have collaboration tools and chatting like Webs. Pro?

Virtual Classroom Software for Online Teaching and Web Conferencing. Online Training So... - 1 views

This is a nice alternative to WebEx. It gives you a virtual classroom to work in where you can store documents of most types, present them in class, do all the things Web Ex does like web conferencing, whiteboard, etc. I am posting this in their virtual classroom where you can access the web collectively. I found this to explore Web 2.0 tools used for learning.
  •
Alyn, Thank you for sharing all this valuable information. I'm taking notes. In my "free" time, I'm going to be figuring how to implement all these new technologies into my classroom. I'm feeling submerged by technology at this point, but like it!!!

Here is the description from Edmodo: "Edmodo provides a safe and easy way for your class to connect and collaborate, share content, and access homework, grades and school notices. Our goal is to help educators harness the power of social media to customize the classroom for each and every learner." Is it another Blackboard? Or not? A feature for this tool is that you can choose to get mobile notifications of updates from the teacher.

I like the tools and layout of the site. Seems very simple and easy to use. I will have to remember this if I ever teach. thanks for posting this site. :)

Looks interesting. Let me check it out a little bit.

I have a user profile on Edmodo, and I am now being asked to use it by my administration team at my school. It kind of reminds me of Facebook in a professional sense.

This looks really promising. I'm going to look into this more and perhaps use this as my portal for the produsage assignment. Thanks for sharing Shuang!

A Google a Day in the classroom [video] - 4 views

  •
A Google a Day provides daily trivia, and can be a fun way to teach your students important online research skills.
  •
Hi Fabrizio, I just tried the Google a Day and I like the concept very much. However, unless I was doing something wrong, I found it cumbersome to do the research and get back to the original question. In addition, when I tried to access Google Map, which was needed for answering today's question, it said it would not support it in the Google a Day window. So I opend GM up in another window. Did you experience something similiar? With that being said, I think the idea is great, especially since they give you tips and hints at how to find the answer. I think researching tips and exercises are very important, even for graduate students. You can never get enough practice in researching topics. Thanks for sharing this, I really liked it.
  •
When I type a research on the search box it opens a pop-up window with the data, so I have two pages open, the A Google a Day one and the search one. I think it works pretty well on Chrome, I didn't have any problem, but I haven't tried it with other browsers. A Google a Day is fun and challenging; however, I don't think you can learn too much from your answers, they are too general. Maybe in the future there will be a way to customize it and create your own challenges, it would be really interesting to use with our students/learners.

Thing 8: Digital Curation Tools - Cool Tools for School - 6 views

  •
I like the section on "curating vs dumping". In a previous course, we used Zotero to store our sources for annotated bibliographies and for classmates to have access to. I did not fully utilize this resources by tagging, sorting, etc. In this case, I just used this site to 'dump' all of my sources and then didn't do anything else with them.
  •
This is a useful resource! It makes me realize that I subconsciously used a curation tool in one of my courses (one I am a very minor instructor actually). During the session, I was presenting some tips to help healthcare professionals to see how useful mastering English could be for their job (I'm the French classmate, remember. ;-) ). I decided to combine all the resources I provided about the TOEFL test, Visas, universities, and so on, in a shared Padlet everybody could implement. Though I thought the comment feature could be helpful, I relied on colors to categorize the various topics. I think including tags would be super helpful to provide multiple ways to classify resources.
