There is a great deal of enthusiasm for the use of games in formal educational contexts;
however, there is a notable and problematic lack of studies that make use of replicable study
designs to empirically link games to learning (Young, et al., 2012). This paper documents the
iterative design and development of an educationally focused game, Compareware in Flash and
for the iPad. We also report on a corresponding pilot study of 146 Grades 1 and 2 students
playing the game, a paper and pencil related activity and completing a pre- and post-test. The
paper outlines preliminary findings from the play testing, which included high levels of student
engagement, an approaching statistical improvement from pre- to post-test, and a discussion of
the improvements that needed to be made to the game following the pilot study.

A Guide for Developing and/or Evaluating Materials for use in Florida's Public Schools
The process of lesson study should promote standards‐based instruction; the development of rigorous, rich, and relevant lessons to engage students in learning content outlined in the Next Generation Sunshine State (Common Core) Course Descriptions; and professional growth for each member of the lesson study team. With this goal in mind, we propose the follow items be included in any collection of materials designed to support the work of a lesson study team; furthermore, we suggest that this be a collection of items available in an electronic format.

Although research studies in education show that use of technology can help student learning, its use is generally affected by certain barriers. In this paper, we first identify the general barriers typically faced by K-12 schools, both in the United States as well as other countries, when integrating technology into the curriculum for instructional purposes, namely: (a) resources, (b) institution, (c) subject culture, (d) attitudes and beliefs, (e) knowledge and skills, and (f) assessment. We then describe the strategies to overcome such barriers: (a) having a shared vision and technology integration plan, (b) overcoming the scarcity of resources, (c) changing attitudes and beliefs, (d) conducting professional development, and (e) reconsidering assessments. Finally, we identify several current knowledge gaps pertaining to the barriers and strategies of technology integration, and offer pertinent recommendations for future research.
