Digital Storytelling on an ipad

The Tennessee Board of Regents sponsors a project in "Mobilization & Emerging Technology" including the "Mobile Apps Resource Bank." There is a great deal of enthusiasm for the use of games in formal educational contexts; however, there is a notable and problematic lack of studies that make use of replicable study designs to empirically link games to learning (Young, et al., 2012). This paper documents the iterative design and development of an educationally focused game, Compareware in Flash and for the iPad. We also report on a corresponding pilot study of 146 Grades 1 and 2 students playing the game, a paper and pencil related activity and completing a pre- and post-test. The paper outlines preliminary findings from the play testing, which included high levels of student engagement, an approaching statistical improvement from pre- to post-test, and a discussion of the improvements that needed to be made to the game following the pilot study.

There is a proposal for all Florida schools to do away with textbooks and use digital devices such as ipad, kindles, etc... Clearwater High School and several other high schools around the State are currently experimenting with this new innovative concept.

I think this is a good and bad idea, I love the fact that students can use the technology, but what about students in areas that can't take advantage of these tablets. Also sometimes it is a bother to try and explain why we only have enough for one group and not the other. Now if we can get enough for everyone in all areas, then I am for it. Bottom line great! post, its really something to look forward to.

Create interactive lessons for mobile devices or use free or paid content. Great way to push out a lesson to iPads or other tablets. I have been using this for over a year with great success. Excellent reporting and metrics features.
