Project Based Learning Viewed Through a Digital Lens - 0 views

  •
Often we search for meaningful ways to integrate digital technology in project based learning activities given to our students. We also would like our students to develop a thorough understanding of the concepts underlying the work - after all this is the purpose of the project. Giving students the opportunity to complete and present their project through a digital lens has one great advantage - student engagement. This in turn causes students to develop a more in depth understanding of concepts.

A cautionary presentation for JISC IE and eResearch Call bidders « Silversprite - 0 views

  • Project Lanes has re-emerged on the JISC website, embedded in a presentation by Greg Newton-Ingham, another ex-eLibber who is self-employed - Greg is now doing interesting things in data mining. The re-emergence of Project Lanes is bad I get no attribution (not a problem, seriously), but good as it means Greg can take any awkward questions It is downloadable from here, and the Project Lanes part is from slides five to 21. Gosh, that was a memory trip. The rest of the slides, by Greg, are also well worth a read. “Not part of the coffee room set.” - yes, that will bring back a few “Them and us” memories to eLib project staff working in universities.

"George Siemens posts frequently and with clarity on his blog elearnspace, and often I find myself nodding my head as I read or questioning my assumptions or bouncing around to other web sites as I hunt down reinforcing or contradicting information. Today I challenged a couple claims made in his posting, Explaining leads to information, which examines the past, present, and future roles of universities."

A Unified Field Theory of Design - 1 views

  •
An understanding of Information Design starts with the essential view that the vast amount of things that bombard our senses everyday are not pieces of information but merely data. Richard Saul Wurman expresses this in his book, Information Anxiety. Data is fairly worthless to most of us; it is the product of research or creation (such as writing), but it is not an adequate product for communicating. To have informational value, it must be organized, transformed, and presented in a way that gives it meaning.
