New comic making web app which also has an i-pod compatible app. This lets you combine drawings, photos, and ready to use artwork to create caricatures. This is great. You can also mash up regular backgrounds with caricatures in the foreground.

For me, Sonya has the 'can do' attitude that is so necessary for educational change to take hold. She combines this 'can do' attitude with a strong sense of how important it is for students to 'own' the learning, 'own' the tools, and 'own' the rules.

I would like to provide good classroom examples to school principals in our District such as the two I mentioned earlier that are considering a 1:1 "project" with ipod touches. In particular, I'm interested in classroom activities, assessments, methods, etc. that use ipod touches to support student learning connected to curriculum (embedded). I am also interested in things teachers have tried that didn't work.

The are over 100,000 applications currently available for the iPod Touch. Here are some that I've found most useful.

bring together all our secondary school Principals to try to get to a shared understanding of the "digital" issues they face in their schools and how we might work together to address them. We met a few weeks ago and round-tabled to pull out the issues. I've included a subset below

"In 2007, [filtering] was high school students' number one obstacle to using technology at their schools (53 percent). For middle school students, two obstacles tied for the greatest barrier (39 percent each): "there are rules against using technology at school" and "teachers limit technology use". It's likely that when students face obstacles to using technology at school, they also face obstacles to inquiry-based learning opportunities which can include online research, visualizations, and games."

as Steve Dembo mentions "here we are with millions of dollars in technology that's being paid for by the parents VOLUNTARILY… and most schools refuse to leverage it because of outdated policies and teachers that don't want to modify their own classroom management strategies."

When I saw Jeremy Davis recently, he told me of an educator who uses cell phones in the classroom. In fact, this teacher requires that the cell phone be out and ON the desk. In plain site. Not hidden in a pocket or backpack. So if the student is using it, the teacher KNOWS. And if the student is using it when they shouldn't… Well, that's when there are consequences.

. We could teach appropriate cell phone etiquette, while showing students how to use cell phones as learning tools. I would like to brainstorm some "rules" for including cell phones inside of the school classroom. Here are my top 5 (although I reserve the right to change them as I hear better ideas).

As well as the school going through a massive rebuilding programme, they have also introduced a set of iPod touches into one year 4 class, for each child, to see what happens. All the touches are networked through an Apple Airport Extreme and out onto the internet through the school's connection. It is not every day you see this sort of thing.
