Escaping the Echo Chamber | Jason T Bedell - 7 views

  • while my colleagues challenge me, we tend to agree on most levels.  We discuss tech integration, education reform, homework, student motivation and we share Web 2.0 tools and projects amongst ourselves, but these conversations rarely leave our small circle. We often say that we are stuck in an echo chamber.
  • So how do we open the chamber up?
  • Find a colleague who seems open to new things:

Webonauts Internet Academy is a web original game from PBS Kids that gives kids 8-10 years-old an opportunity to have some fun while exploring what it means to be a citizen in a web-infused‚ information-rich world. It is an engaging experience on its own but becomes all the more powerful when parents and teachers use game play as a springboard for conversations about media literacy and citizenship in the 21st Century. Very nicely done and a great starting point. From Adam Bellow on EduTech

Suzie Boss writes a comprehensive overview of the growing use of twitter in education. I find it so interesting that many of the complaints about twitter are also the initial complaints I heard about blogging. This is a very nice overview of twitter for those who are wondering "what is the fuss?"

Thing 7C: RSS News! | Reflecting Pools - 0 views

  • I’ve always valued problem-solving, decision-making, and higher critical thinking skills in my classes. I know that 7th graders are a bit wobbly in their emerging abstract thinking skills, but I also know that a little scaffolding and creative empowerment helps those new skills flourish! Learning how to learn and learning how to think are two of my top goals for each of my students.

Cool wiki that is being used for PD in a district.
  •
This is a wiki being built for a digital literacy program for teachers within a school division. This approach is a great one for districts and is a way to reach everyone with current information. I also wish they had a blog to compliment it, but sharing these sorts of websites are great. It would be nice if we had a template of information that people could copy to get started.
