Anki is a program designed to help you remember facts (such as words and phrases in a foreign language) as easily, quickly and efficiently as possible. To do this, it tracks how well you remember each fact, and uses that information to optimally schedule review times. Theoretically this will greatly increase the amount of material you remember, making study more productive. Free and open source, binaries available for Win, Mac and Debian ^_^

Pencil is an animation/drawing software for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux. It lets you create traditional hand-drawn animation (cartoon) using both bitmap and vector graphics. Pencil is free and open source.

Celestia is a free and open source space simulator that allows you to explore space right from your computer. Celestia is available for download on Windows, Mac OS X, and even Linux. Celestia has many very cool features, including an eclipse finder. Not only does the eclipse finder allow you to find solar and lunar eclipses on Earth, but you can seek eclipses on other planets as well. I found out something really cool when checking out eclipses on Jupiter - because Jupiter is very large and has many moons, solar eclipses are very common.

Even though most students who already own a laptop own a mac, we know that others are using a range of models running everything... Because our primaryacademic learning platforms (moodle and google apps education edition) run directly through the browser we're able to take a hardware and OS nuetral approach in our 1-1 learning model. @mjmontagne calls this "being device and OS agnostic"

I don't really understand all about this project out of MIT but want to learn more about it. Thi s is what they say on their site: "ikuli is a visual technology to search and automate graphical user interfaces (GUI) using images (screenshots). Microsoft Mathematics provides a graphing calculator that plots in 2D and 3D, step-by-step equation solving, and useful tools to help students with math and science studies. I wonder if it is as good as the graphing calculator that has been on Mac forever?

Google Cloud Connect is available in over 30 languages for PC's running Windows 7, Vista and XP. (Not available for Mac yet.) It integrators using Google Apps for domains should work on this over the summer.

Slife is a time and activity analytics application for both Mac and Windows that automatically keeps track of where you spend your time on your computer.

Searches other search engines for pictures (Flickr, Photobucket, Google, Yahoo etc). Windows-only but the Mac version is under development. Some images have copyright info on them, but not all. Can see a lot of different images at once.
