A book study for Flat Classroom Book

An overview of International collaboration on the World wide web. It does mention our Flat Classroom projects, although they left out our biggest projec t- "A WEek in the Life" elementary project which is almost topping 1000 this semester! 

What is a global project? I define a global project as any sort of collaborative project that involves two or more classes from different schools/countries. There is usually a defined purpose and structure to the project. The learning is usually documented and shared on an online space such as a blog. Some global projects have a culminating event.

I love this story from Donna Roman about her students Skyping with students in another classroom. it was very powerful. This is through iEARN but she is also connecting through Flat Classroom. Great teachers connect in many ways to many places. Wow. Love it.

Lower School Global Colaboration

Interesting Idea for getting Secondary teachers involved with global collaboration.

Students from our two schools were grouped together to study an issue of social justice using web 2.0 tools. These tools help students put the best practice of collaborative learning into play by working with others to problem solve. Tools such as VoiceThread allow teachers to practice differentiated assessment. Being socially connected, students believe their contributions matter and they feel a stronger degree of responsibility to support their new partners. Students want an authentic audience to express themselves too.

When we Skyped with Silvia, what happens years ago, makes more sense. She told us way more than I'd read in a textbook. She made me put myself in Germany during the night of broken glass.

Information about the tapped in festival.

Tapped in has been a mainstay in education and a non threatening method of using chat to link with people around the world. This longstanding contributor to education has its 2008 Tapped In Festival scheduled for July 23 and July 24th with some neat things planned. This website has more information for you and certificates of participation will be available for those who participates. Teachers should connect in which ever way they feel most comfortable and the power of embedded networks should never be ignored.

Filter fever is a symptom of fear. We all see clearly what China is afraid of. But what on earth are US public schools afraid of?

A website supporting collaborative research at the highest academic levels. Run out of the University of Michigan this looks like a fascinating endeavor where one can network with other researchers.

40 classrooms participated in the monster project this past year! What a great project for younger age students which encourages reading and writing skills while integrating technology in the classroom. Plus it is about monsters! Kids love (or hate them) either way, fun conversations ensue.
