"El programa se impartirá en todos los colegios públicos de Washington DC, en una iniciativa pionera en todo el país. La capital de EE UU quiere ponerse al día en materia de movilidad ciclista. Y para ello, nada como apostar por que las futuras generaciones de ciclistas se acostumbren a usar la bicicleta y a circular con ella correctamente por las calles de la ciudad. Especialmente en un momento del año como este, en el que empieza el curso y muchos padres se plantean arrancarlo animando a sus hijos a ir al cole en bici. Washington DC pone en marcha un programa de educación vial que enseñará a todos los niños de las escuelas públicas a circular en bicicleta. Una iniciativa pionera en todo el país y que se espera que inspire a otras ciudades de EE UU. Contra la desigualdad El programa, que lleva el nombre de Cornerstones (piedras angulares), nace además con un objetivo ambicioso: luchar contra la gran desigualdad entre los niños de los diferentes colegios ubicados en distintos barrios de la ciudad. Para ello, nada como utilizar la bicicleta como elemento de unión entre los niños de las zonas más pudientes y las más desfavorecidas. Esa desigualdad se aprecia especialmente en el hecho de que, en algunos puntos de la ciudad, son muchos los niños que ni siquiera saben montar en bicicleta: hasta un 60%, según apuntó Miriam Kenyon, directora de salud y educación física de las escuelas públicas de la ciudad en declaraciones recogidas por la web Bicycling."
