As educators, we could stand to do some of this with students. I wonder what this would look like in the classroom? I wonder what it would look like from an administrator towards an educator?

It has recently released a 1:1 Smart Classrooms Byte on the topic which may help in some ways answer some of the issues on 1:1. The website is: http://education.qld.gov.au/smartclassrooms/strategy/dp/one-2-one.html The downloadable PDF titled "Smart Classrooms Byte: 21 Steps to 21st Century 1-to-1 Success" is listed in the first line. On the page is also some base information on the trials currently underway using some of the Ultra mobiles mentioned in this thread (i.e. eeePC, etc)

The term professional learning community describes a collegial group of administrators and school staff who are united in their commitment to student learning. They share a vision, work and learn collaboratively, visit and review other classrooms, and participate in decision making (Hord, 1997b). The benefits to the staff and students include a reduced isolation of teachers, better informed and committed teachers, and academic gains for students. Hord (1997b) notes, "As an organizational arrangement, the professional learning community is seen as a powerful staff-development approach and a potent strategy for school change and improvement."

Hi Laura, A chapter closes for you too! Congrats to your son. I still think it is funny that we met in Boston because @shareski inSaskatchewannoticed you across the room via my Ustream of Alan's pre-conference presentation.Your presence will be missed at BLC09… but I'm sure we will keep in touch. These wonderful concepts to which these school districts have seemingly dedicated themselves, are not in evidence in the reality of what goes on in their school buildings on a day to day basis. It's as if there are two realities. One reality is what we think and say to each others as educators, and the other is what we actually do.

A leader needs the guts to stand alone and look ridiculous. But what he's doing is so simple, it's almost instructional. This is key. You must be easy to follow! Now comes the first follower with a crucial role: he publicly shows everyone how to follow.
