edonis methodology and EdD writings - 0 views

  • During the summer of 2008 I began work on my thesis. At this time, the working title was, “How are educators using the ‘social web’ to enhance teaching and learning, and their own professional development?” I started to develop a three-year, longitudinal study, entitled edonis (educators online impact study); setting out to have 100 participants by time of commencement at the start of November. The research would consist primarily of: fortnightly emailed questions; monthly online surveys via Survey Monkey; quarterly invited response to some stimulus; yearly extended discussion (online or face-to-face); and a face-to-face or online recorded interview.

The End of Techno-Critique: The Naked Truth about 1:1 Laptop Initiatives and Educationa... - 0 views

  •
This article responds to a generation of techno-criticism in education. It contains a review of the key themes of that criticism. The context of previous efforts to reform education reframes that criticism. Within that context, the question is raised about what schools need to look and be like in order to take advantage of laptop computers and other technology. In doing so, the article presents a vision for self-organizing schools.

Innovative School Models and Resolve Revisited in·no·va·tion (noun) 1: the introduction of something new; 2: a new idea, method, or device Merriam-Webster online The term innovation is becoming more and more prevalent in education-related discussions. Schools from coast to coast are adopting "innovative" models to address educational needs in local communities. The range of practice associated with these models is wide. Some models are prescribed programs with detailed requirements for professional development and implementation. Other models are more tailored to an individual community and somewhat less specific in structure and delivery. The development of these K-12 programs has been accompanied by university programs designed to facilitate growth, increase successful outcomes, and analyze results.

Should the web be filtered in schools? If yes then where is the line? David Gilmour (East Lothian) First, all social s/w sites are not the same. Distinguish blogs/wikis from Bebo etc as a first step. Next establish that Web2 is now mainstream. Queen, GB have Youtube sites, not just happy slappers. Have a paper I did on this... Ben Plouviez (Scottish Government, personal capacity) Some very random thoughts: this is an area where I think we should make waves, and I'd like to understand more about how filtering works (or doesn't) in local authorities and schools.

Half an Hour: The Future of Online Learning: Ten Years On - 0 views

  •
The Future of Online Learning: Ten Years On An MS-Word version of this essay is available at http://www.downes.ca/files/future2008.doc In the summer of 1998, over two frantic weeks in July, I wrote an essay titled The Future of Online Learning. (Downes, 1998) At the time, I was working as a distance education and new media design specialist at Assiniboine Community College, and I wrote the essay to defend the work I was doing at the time. "We want a plan," said my managers, and so I outlined the future as I thought it would - and should - unfold.
