THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A FLIPPED CLASSROOM IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING - 2 views

  •
This qualitative study was conducted to gain insights into the perceptions of prospective English language teachers at a state university in Turkey on flipped classrooms and to introduce the implementation of a flipped classroom into an English language class. The results were interesting and there are useful recommendations for implementing flipped language lessons.

"the secret words" idea seems to be very creative. I wonder how it is implemented. I also wish we could be able to learn what they do in the classroom in this specific example. I really wonder how classroom activities work in flipped elt classes.

Sebahat Hocam, maybe we can contact the authors and ask about it.

$249 'Babel Fish' earphones translate foreign languages in real-time - 4 views

  •
You probably came across the famous quote by Dr. Ray Clifford saying "Technology will not replace teachers, but teachers who do not use technology will be replaced." Well, that might change sooner than we had anticipated. Some companies have been working very hard for several years to manufacture real-time translation devices like the one mentioned in the article attached. Although most of the attempts are too immature to be taken seriously, I think we will have devices in the next decade that are able to translate satisfactorily across languages. Whether this will have a tangible impact on language teaching professionals is yet to be seen.

Assessing Pre-service English as a Foreign Language Teachers' Technological P... - 3 views

  •
This is a research study carried out in Turkey. To assess pre-service English as a foreign language teachers' technological pedagogical content knowledge, Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge Scale was used and students were asked to answer some open-ended questions. The results of the study revealed a highly developed knowledge of TPACK among undergraduate students of an ELT program at a public university in Turkey. On the basis of the results, it is suggested that the integration of content, pedagogy and technological knowledge into the existing teacher education paradigm and fostering technologically-rich environment for language learners will contribute to quality learning and teaching.

Exploring TPACK of pre-service Language Teachers - 3 views

Very interesting indeed! It would be helpful if the author illustrated further the data analysis process, including coding. One challenge working with self-report data is that it's self reported. It's important to add more direct data sources for triangulation purpose, analyses of documents, e.g., lesson plans, in this particular case with preservice teachers. I would recommend observations. In fact, Evrim and I have been working with a few colleagues on an observation study among exemplary teachers with technology integration with the goal to visualize TPACK. That's one of the focuses in my dissertation. I designed a TPAKC-in-Action model to guide the CALL teacher education workshops and conducted them with inservice English teachers in Taiwan. After completed those workshops, I went to teachers' classrooms and observe their teaching. There have been some interesting and amazing findings and results! Will share more with everyone in June. Before then,...

"Linking, developing and supporting English Language Teaching professionals worldwide" is the motto of IATEFL. I think it is one of the biggest field in ELT. There are many seminars, webinars and also some articles are done under the cover of this community. It is really appreciated but to join you need to pay around 56 $.

These tools are included in a master thesis written by Muhammad Fauzan Ansyari in 2012. His study used different data collection tools such as TPACK and TAC questionnaires, a lesson plan rubric adapted from Harris, Grandgenett, and Hofer's Technology Integration Assessment Rubric, interviews about TPACK, and the researcher's logbook. They can be found in Appendices part of this thesis.

The Flipped Class: Overcoming Common Hurdles - 1 views

  •
In this short informative video clip, two experienced flippers offer a number of ways to overcome the challenges posed by the flipped classrooms. Here is the outline of the video: - alternative ways on how to access content, - how to watch educational videos, - the optimum length of the videos, - how to motivate students to watch the videos before coming to class, - some techniques to improve the quality of the videos, - the flexibility of flipped approaches, - the importance of contextual factors on the effectiveness of flipped classrooms.

this video illuminated me about the minimum properties of an instructional video. I agree that while providing a video teacher should consider the grade of students. Language, clarity and length of video is important to gain student attention. And this is a good idea that starting with small pieces may be good to try the flipped classroom model and adjust students.

Flipped Physical Education Helps Students and Families Get Fit and Have Fun - 0 views

"Teachers in many subjects, including math, science and foreign languages, are all using technology to switch up the way students learn. However, one area that hasn't recently been in the spotlight is physical education (PE), where it's assumed students just run around playing soccer or basketball." If you wonder about flipped learning in physical education, this sharing is for you ;)
