Module 1-1: Classroom Organization - 0 views

  •
This website has various resources for teachers who wish to organize their classrooms. The website focuses on behavioral activity since many of the suggestions are projected to result in the teacher feeling less overwhelmed upon implementing these suggested ideas. There is clearly what Mayer (2009) would refer to as a learner-centered design since many of the included links focus on how learners can play an active role in contributing to classroom organization. Furthermore, there are suggestions with regards to how various items should be placed to accommodate the diverse learning needs of students.

Planning a Successful Multimedia Project (In 6 Easy Steps!) - 0 views

  •
This site provides very good information for making a plan on what will be presented and what things to consider for participants. I like this particular site, because it has a small visual w/ text next to some of the information highlighting the overall message that appears in text.

Website 3 - Microsoft's Office 365: - 0 views

  •
Microsoft's Office 365 is offered free for schools and allows teachers and students to collaborate in innovative ways.  The program comes bundled with email, instant messaging, video conferencing, calendar and document sharing along with virtual storage. Learners can use Microsoft's Office 365 to collaborate asynchronously on group projects using SharePoint to promote knowledge construction and find meaning as they solve problems. Since Microsoft's Office 365 promotes active learning, I will use this program as one of the three artifacts for my multimedia workshop on flipped classroom instruction.

Screenr for pre-training - 1 views

  •
Screenr allows the user to record a five minute video. The benefit of the time limit of five minutes is that you have to be concise in your video creation. The overall screencasting experience is beneficial because if you are having individuals involved in the process of a common project (e.g. creating a blog or a Facebook group) everyone can get the same instruction and be ready to move on to the main portion of the project.
  •
Screenr allows users to create screencasts to share their knowledge. Features of screenr allow users to record directly on their Mac or PC without installing or downloading software. Once the screencast is made, it can be embedded on sites and blogs. One way that screenr supports essential learning is by addressing the modality and multimedia principles. Screenr seems to be more effective for creating tutorials.

PowerPoint with a Learning Point - 1 views

  •
The topic of my multimedia workshop is on How to Utilize Multimedia to Create Effective Instructions. I plan to use PowerPoint as my multimedia artifact. In Jones (2005) article she establishes the fact that the technology of choice for most projects was PowerPoint. The main reasons for selecting PowerPoint for my multimedia project coincided with what was discussed in this article. PowerPoint is accessible and familiar to most educators and students. It is simple to use, can be created on desktop, visually stimulating, sounds or auditory stimulation can be added and can be use for cognitive abilities. In addition, PowerPoint has presentation versatility because it can be used as an original file, PDF format, and html format. It can also run with videos and have narration added. Finally, the software allows for interactivity. The focus of the multimedia workshop is to create a learner-centered approach to learning instead of a technology approach to learning; the software is used to facilitate this process (Jones 2005, p. 1). Mayer's (2008) active processing is when meaningful learning occurs and learners are engaged in the active cognitive processing during learning and instructors must figure out ways to prime the learners to pay attention to relevant material, and mentally organize the information and integrate the information based on their prior knowledge. The ability to actively process information can be associated students dynamic, collaborative and synergistic construction of significant knowledge within a multi-learning environment. Jones, D. (2009.). PowerPoint with a learning point. Multimedia tool - 2 views

  •
For those of you familiar with the software Inspiration, this is a web version with some of the same options. This is a mind mapping tool that helps you "capture ideas, organize information, collaborate and share your work, and create diagrams.

  •
This website allows you to create custom graphic organizers online, and was created by the same company that makes the popular Inspiration graphic organizer software. It is user friendly, and is better than many programs because it allows you to share your work via links, or invite members to edit your work.
  •
The more I use this website, the more I am impressed with what I can do. It's ability to insert hyperlinks to the bubbles in the organizers encouraged me to use it in the pre-training module of my workshop. In the general case, it can be used in all the modules. The ability to script an outline and have the software generate the organizer is convenient and time-saving.
  •
This site provides the ability to organize, map out and collaborate with others ideas and information. This site is free and available on public beta. Users are provide with tips and examples.
  •
This web version of a mind map tool can be created electronically and embedded into other presentations. User-friendly for the middle school student.
  •
This site will allow students organize information by building a mind map of specific content. With the mind map, students create a quick view chart or graph which, along with a transcript which will place the information in a outline for ease of studying. The lesson plan will help the student use content information to extract specific concepts to create a snapshot of how information is connected to a specific idea. This activity can be done independently and shared with classmates for input. In addition, the students will rely on their cognitive ability to develop the mind map.
  •
Webspiration is a Web 2.0 tool that helps you create an online web (similar to the old Inspiration). You can organize your ideas and be creative at the same time. Your Webspiration product can even be embedded in a webpage or blog. Easy to use. Familiar to those who've used Inspiration or Kidspiration in the past.
  •
I use Webspiration to map out ideas, organize with outlines and collaborate online with teams or colleagues. This site can be use for generative learning the organizer will give participants an overview of the main concepts and allow them to construct new knowledge. I selected this sit because it is user friendly. It also has sample organizers that you can use.
  •
Webspiration http://www.mywebspiration.com/ This site allows users to create a mind map using various different fonts and templates. Webspiration allows for generative learning becasue the participants would be actively involved with the creation. I like this site becasue it is free. The webs can be embedded into blogs and the webs can be worked on collaboratively in a group. I plan to use some collaborative grouping during my presentation. Participants can also view the visual in an outline form for easier construction of the web.
  •
Webspiration is an interactive web-based graphic organizer generator. It is a wonderful way to create graphic organizers that can also be used during presentations. It is easy to use and allows teachers to hyperlink out to other sites to help students understand concepts better. The best part about Webspiration is that it allows groups/individuals to work collaboratively and share their ideas.
  •
Online version of Inspiration mind-mapping software. Site is at the generative level of cognitive processing, as users can apply the tool in the creation of an endless variety of graphic organizers for any purpose. The site includes instructional tips and samples. It allows for high levels of customization or really simple, automated creation, perfect for new users.
  •
This tool I think is one of the best program to create concept map. Also, you can make outlines, work collaboratively and have a great help center link with a lot of features to create an amazing work.
  •
Webspiration is the online counterpart to Inspiration/Kidspiration software. The online interface allows users to design a wide variety of mind maps and graphic organizers. The software makes it possible for users to easily build diagrams that reflect the key components to essential and generative processing. This online resource has many advantages: free access, the ability to collaborate with other Webspiration users on the same project, online chat features to promote synchronous collaboration, an unlimited amount of storage space, and robust tools for design, editing, and sharing.
  •
*Mindmapping tools assist learners with connecting and organizing their learning and give instructors a view of where students may have misrpresentations. Concept maps as assessments: http://pandora.cii.wwu.edu/cii/resources/modules/concept/default.asp *Webspiration allows students to use various icons for representing their material while it seamlessly creates outlines in the background.
  •
It allows the students to build a framework towards independent thinking and improve their study skills. This is easier to use because it has apps to guide the student. In higher education, the students are able collaborate about their visual art.
  •
Webspiration is a teacher friendly site that contains a vast array of graphic organizers, diagrams, writing organizers and many others. This site is typically used in grades 5-12. With many options, students and/or teacher are able to find an organizer that suits their project or essay. This site is easy to use and is effective in assisting students in independently developing their graphic organizer.
  •
Webspiration offers collaboration and graphic organizer software for classroom or professional use. Webspiration has free subscriptions available as well as subscriptions for purchase. I found it to be easy to use and share.

MOD 3 - Course Management Systems (CMS) - 2 views

  •
The Moodle CMS will assume a central position in my workshop. One objective is to have participants learn CMS functionalities. The workshop project will require that participants set up a course on Moodle. The workshop will be delivered through my own Moodle setup. In addition to the many other features, Gradebook, for purposes of assessment, will also be highlighted. I will use my Moodle to collect participant work through the Dropbox feature, evaluate the work, and grade the projects through Gradebook.

Soundsnap Assignment 3 - 0 views

  •
This site provides sound effects and music for video creations in mp3 and wav formats. Participants may wish to include variable sounds other than fabricated audio in their media projects. Therefore, motivation and deep, creative thought regarding the project determines the level of involvement and generative processing by the participant. This site does require registration and a small fee for sounds. However, the sound designs follow copyright guidelines for use in video production and available for immediate download in accessible formats.

Skype - 0 views

  •
Skype allows video conferencing between participants and students sharing sample media projects. By initiating motivation for the workshop through synchronous communication with student experts, participants experience generative processing. This procedure will demonstrate the purpose of the workshop and increase motivation for participation. Skype is free, available on my school server, and easy to install and use.
  •
Skype has become very popular because of the easy (and free) access to video and audio conferencing. It can potentially be used for conferencing calling a presentation. Also, students could work together closely from home because of the ability to hear each other while surfing the Internet looking for resources for the project.

Using Avatars - 1 views

  •
Voki is a online site that allows the learner to create their own speaking avatar. Once the avatar is created, there is an opportunity to demonstrate generative learning by creating speech for the avatar. The speech can be recorded by one's own voice or done through a text to speech tool. In my project, this will be a way for workshop participants to use generative learning to apply their learning to creating their own project. They will post an avatar on their wiki to entice learners to use it, giving purpose and features that will make the wiki useful to the participant. I chose this site for many reasons. Although it is very simple to use, it requires a high level of creativity that is engaging for learners. The product is high quality and is able to be shared via email and different online environments.

Vokis are customizable avatars for use in the classroom. A lesson does not have to consist of a large amount of time, which makes Vokis valuable for sharing mini-lessons or instructions with students. The teacher's voice (or student's) may be recorded and combined with text-based instructions be used to teach a list of vocabulary words, give instructions, or even as individualized greeting for students when they login to their computer. Vokis can be stored on a wiki to reduce the burden on a school's server and are safe to share (as long as the students does not share any specific information about themselves) because they do not show the child's face. Vokis are fun for students and encourage their oral language development in a non-threatening way.
  •
Voki is one way to add voice to a presentation. You can use the text-to-speech feature to explain a presentation or record your own voice. Voki can also be embedded in a blog or website. Each Voki is engaging to the learner. Easy to use.
  •
Allows the user to create an animated avatar to be used as a presenter of material. Inputted text is converted to speech (available in multiple languages). Voki is recognized as one of the best programs of its kind for the qulity of the imagery and the flexibility of the user input.
  •
Voki allows you to make speaking avatars to use as an effective learning tool to motivate students to participate, improve comprehension, introduce technology in a fun way, and even as an effective language tool. Voki Classroom allows educators to organize how their students interact with Voki. Teachers and administrators can create class accounts, manage student work without student registration, and provides unlimited support for free or offers more at a low cost. The website provides lesson plans, brain training games, and tutorials.
  •
Voki is a great multimedia website that will allow students to create talking avatars depicting themselves or historical figures.  I will use this site in my presentation wiki on infusing mulitmedia in a history class.
  •
This website allows users to design an avatar. A video demonstrating the use of avatars for editing rough drafts show a potential use of this Web 2.0 tool for the K-12 classroom. This video can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/embed/ao9KQltMkP0
