Digital Storytelling is the practice of using computer-based tools to tell stories. As with traditional storytelling, most digital stories focus on a specific topic and contain a particular point of view. However, as the name implies, digital stories usually contain some mixture of computer-based images, text, recorded audio narration, video clips and/or music. Digital stories can vary in length, but most of the stories used in education typically last between two and ten minutes. And the topics that are used in Digital Storytelling range from personal tales to the recounting of historical events, from exploring life in one's own community to the search for life in other corners of the universe, and literally, everything in between. This is a free software package is on your Microsoft CD or, you can download it from Microsoft.com. Using Photostory, you can create slideshows using your digital photos. With a single click, you can touch-up, crop, or rotate pictures, remove red-eye, add stunning special effects, soundtracks, and your own voice narration to your photo stories. Then, you can personalize them with titles and captions. Small file sizes make it easy to send your photo stories in an e-mail or watch them on your TV, a computer, or a Windows Mobile-based portable device. Students can take their own digital photos to create a time-line, presentation, or video product.

This website lists tools for the digital storyteller.  While the information on the tools is technology-centered, the use of the tools is learner-centered as seen in the examples of the tools in action.

This is an additional site on digital story making. While it contains great information it can be more difficult to navigate and keep track of important information. Users should be conscious of where they find valuable information. 

One of the best sites I've found for an overview of digital storytelling. The site is at the essential cognitive level, giving visitors an overview of key terms, tools, and concepts. The site shares several powerful examples and offers some great reflection by its author on the assessment process, including students' self-assessments.

The site is generative in that it prompts the reader to apply the learning with some quality story prompts. It breaks the process into 10 basic steps, and it includes storyboard samples, needed hardware/software, publishing tips, and more.

This is an eLearning tutorial page for a few software choices for making digital stories. The software featured here is for both Mac and PC platforms.

Through the use of iMovie participants will create a short digital story. iMovie is a user-friendly programt hat allows you to integrate any of the pictures, audio, and videos on your Apple computer into one movie. iMovie is one of the simpler to use video creation softwares available for Apple, and it also comes standard with the computer. Through the use of iMovie the participant will be engaged in generative learning since it is their motivation as a learner that will determine the success of their digital story that they create.
