If you watch a lot of online videos for education or research, you'll find VideoNotes a really useful tool. It's as simple as this: sign in with a Google account (VideoNotes uses Google Drive for storage) and then paste in the URL for a YouTube video. Then as it plays you can start making notes on the right-hand side of the screen. The clever bit is that as you click on previous notes you've made, the video will jump to that point, making this a really useful tool for navigating documentaries, study guides and other long, involved videos.

Interesting information although it is not Australian. It would be great to see this kind of research done in Australia as we have a great deal of differences in attitude and management of this issue than our northern neighbours.

CrowdSpot is a practical and inclusive web-based tool designed to complement the planning process for public space improvements. CrowdSpot is also great for research and knowledge sharing projects. Let's say a Council is interested in finding out which of 10 possible bicycle infrastructure projects the public values most. CrowdSpot is able to highlight a map of the municipality, with the projects identified. Members of the public simply vote on the project/s they value most. The CrowdSpot team provide a detailed analysis of the data, including visualisations, to assist Council make the best decision possible.

Pew research released fresh stats on what slice of Americans are addicted to all of the various social networks as of December 2012. There are a few big business and cultural implications.

And a Silicon Valley start-up company with the unlikely name of Google.com is showing the way. Google.com started as a research project by a couple of Stanford grad students - which, of course, is just how Yahoo, the directory site that has become the Web's most popular service, began. Yahoo tends to be more valuable than other search sites because its index is created by human beings rather than computer programs. But for the same reason, Yahoo has a hard time keeping up with the Web's explosive growth."
