About | The Granny Cloud - 0 views

  •
"Welcome to the The Granny Cloud! "Grannies" Skyping with children in India and Colombia! Not only "grannies" of course, but grandpas too! And mums and dads and aunties and uncles and… While we do have many grannies it's the attitude that matters - encouraging, nurturing, praising and offering guidance rather than directing, instructing and examining. In this blog you'll find reports from grannies about how their Skype sessions went - grannies sharing and learning from each other."

All you need is an old footy sock and you can make your own iPad stylus. "Fortunately, it's quite easy to make a soft, conductive writing tool using some pretty basic materials.  All you need is a pencil, an anti-static sock, and some patience to cut and sew it all together."

Dictation Technology Will Change Writing Instruction | Edutopia - 4 views

  •
"My prediction is that if dictation technologies become less expensive and more widely available, and if it becomes normal to use them for everyday writing (such as email and text messaging), then students will grow disinclined to type their writing assignments, preferring instead to rattle off their compositions by voice. Educators will thus be confronting inescapable decisions about how they should respond to students' inclinations to write with dictation technologies."

The Crazy S**t People Search for on Google [infographic] - 2 views

  •
"In 2010 I was in a panel at SXSW about how the Adobe Creative team was adapting to the way people were learning how to operate their products. The way people learned the program wasn't by taking classes or using tutorials anymore. People would now 'google' what they wanted to program to do and follow instructions from random people's forum posts - sometimes using very unorthodox methods to find a solution. Hey, I know that google search isn't just for learning skills and traits - we all have some stupid S**t we've search."

  •
Mutt Susan from Digital Divide and Conquer has created a great rubric to assist students in understanding and analyzing the apps they find. The Student App Review Rubric has five criteria that students can use when assessing an app. Each of the criteria can be given a numerical number from 0 to 4 with 4 as the top grade. The 5 criteria are: 1. Looks and sound, 2. Engagement and motivation. 3. User friendly directions and instructions. 4. Performance and ease of use. 5. Differentiation in learning.

A great extension for Google Chrome. That allows you to take screen shots and then annotate them. This would be very useful for teachers and or students who create 'how to' instructional projects.

Our core competency is producing games that combine best practices in commercial game development with key concepts from the learning sciences. Accordingly, our senior staff is comprised of individuals who are equal parts game and instructional designers; a "dual literacy" that allows us to engineer authentic gameplay mechanics (rules and interactions that directly correlate with specific learning objectives). Filament Games was founded in 2005 by education technology expert Dan White, game designer Dan Norton, and software engineer Alex Stone. In the time since, Filament has developed over 30 educational games for clients ranging from National Geographic's JASON Science to Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's iCivics Inc.
