The visual from Grasping For Objectivity details 29 different 'edutainment' apps that are both free and paid. I like how each one is laid out and ranked accordingly. The apps are each given an overall score and it's based on a plethora of criteria:" The chart looks at iOS apps but the criteria can be used for any app therefore to work out which Android apps would work for your classroom too.

Mutt Susan from Digital Divide and Conquer has created a great rubric to assist students in understanding and analyzing the apps they find. The Student App Review Rubric has five criteria that students can use when assessing an app. Each of the criteria can be given a numerical number from 0 to 4 with 4 as the top grade. The 5 criteria are: 1. Looks and sound, 2. Engagement and motivation. 3. User friendly directions and instructions. 4. Performance and ease of use. 5. Differentiation in learning.

Nik Peachey's post that discusses how you can evaluate apps. He clearly sets out the criteria for evaluating authentic apps that would be for use in educational settings.

This is a fantastic starting point for all schools to begin their implementation of BYOD. All Teachers, Techs and Principals should have a thorough read as we all know BYOD is either here or fast on its way.
