Infuse Learning allows teachers to push questions, prompts, and quizzes out to students' devices in private virtual classrooms. In an Infuse Learning room a teacher can give students a wide variety of formats in which to response to a question or prompt. Facebook Makes You Two Friends Closer to Everyone [STUDY] - 2 views

  • Facebook’s study shows that even on an online social network that is supposed to cross the boundaries of geography and age, people tend to befriend others their own age, as well as people in the same country.
  • if you limit the analysis to a single country, the “four degrees of separation” theory shrinks even further, with most pairs of people being only separated by 3 degrees.
  •
A theory stemming from an experiment by social psychologist Stanley Milgram in the 1960s claims every living person is connected to any other through only six friends. According to a recent study, Facebook reduces the six degrees of separation to only four, meaning the world's largest social network makes the world even smaller (figuratively).

Wolfram Alpha Pro democratizes data analysis: an in-depth look at the $4.99 a month ser... - 1 views

  •
"On Wednesday, February 8th, Wolfram Alpha will be adding a new, "Pro" option to its already existing services. Priced at a very reasonable $4.99 a month ($2.99 for students), the new services includes the ability to use images, files, and even your own data as inputs instead of simple text entry. The "reports" that Wolfram Alpha kicks out as a result of these (or any) query are also beefed up for Pro users, some will actually become interactive charts and all of them can be more easily exported in a variety of formats. We sat down with Stephen Wolfram himself to get a tour of the new features and to discuss what they mean for his goal of "making the world's knowledge computable.""

Quality Rubrics / Tools for Writing Rubrics - 5 views

  •
Rubrics are almost always a work in progress and most have strengths and weaknesses. As a result, on this wiki, a rubric may be used to demonstrate a non-example of a trait of quality rubrics but could be a quality example for a different attribute. Conversely, some of the quality examples may be lacking in other areas. We are using the rubrics to explore how to attend to details so we can ensure that any one rubric is as clear, explicit, and effective as possible.

Twitter: How to archive event hashtags and create an interactive visualization of the c... - 4 views

  •
"The use of Twitter to collecting tweets around an event hashtag allowing participants to share and contribute continues to grow and has even become part of mass media events, various TV shows now having and publicising their own tag. This resource is often lost in time, only tiny snippets being captured in blog posts or summaries using tools like Storify, which often loose the richness of individual conversations between participants. It doesn't have to be this way. Using a combination of Google Spreadsheets as a data source and a simple web interface to add interactivity it's possible to let users explorer your entire event hashtag and replay any of conversations."

An update to our search algorithms - Inside Search - 0 views

  •
"We aim to provide a great experience for our users and have developed over 200 signals to ensure our search algorithms deliver the best possible results. Starting next week, we will begin taking into account a new signal in our rankings: the number of valid copyright removal notices we receive for any given site. Sites with high numbers of removal notices may appear lower in our results. This ranking change should help users find legitimate, quality sources of content more easily-whether it's a song previewed on NPR's music website, a TV show on Hulu or new music streamed from Spotify. Quixey - The Search Engine for Apps - 4 views

  •
"Whether you're searching for apps on your mobile device, browser, desktop or any other platform, we make sure you can always find the tools you need. We'll find you apps for every activity and task imaginable. Just answer one question for us: What do you want to do? Quixey was founded in 2009 to solve a problem - millions of apps were being created, but there was no simple way to find them. App discovery was limited to categories, top ten lists, directories and basic keyword search. Quixey was created to help people easily find apps simply by describing want they wanted to do. "

Sreedhar Pillai: How Long Before You Will Scoop.it Instead of Google It? A Year, Two, a... - 1 views

  •
This is not mere Google bashing which has become very fashionable these days. It is not about the deteriorating search quality of Google everyone is starting to notice or why Microsoft's Bing is any better. It is really about how the cyber world is changing and shaping the needs and expectations which have evolved beyond mere key word search. Services like Scoop.it will meet those because Google won't. Pretty soon the question will be "have you scooped it?" rather than "Have you Googled it?"
