This site is great for young children who are learning to use the computer. On this site there is online coloring, print-and-play activities, and storybook creations. This site is easy to navigate, it's child-friendly, and it's free. Everything on this site is about Dr. Seuss and there are things for parents as well. I really like this site!

Wikispaces is an excellent tool for creating a website for a classroom. Children or teachers can create the website and continually update it. It seems to be a pretty good website since this is a wikispace!

This site is used primarily to share presentation slides, documents and PDFs for getting ideas from others who might have similar interests. SlideShare is most useful for an older age group such as high school or college students and businesses. This can also be used for young children such as when teaching numbers, colors, days of the week, months, seasons, etc.

This is a collaborative document creation website mainly used for groups collaborating on mission statements, news articles, press releases, product reviews, petitions, etc. Most documents on this site are related to politics. It would not be appropriate to use in a classroom setting or with children. However, it would be a good tool for parents or teachers to use if they are concerned about a children's product, some type of legislation, or a community issue related to education.

Lisa Guernsey: Screen Time, Young Kids and Literacy: New Data Begs Questions - 4 views

  • the larger picture painted by today's statistics is hard to miss: Media is embedded in children's lives and dominating hours of their days, while reading is trailing behind. The next trick is to tease out what I call the Three C's: the content, context and the individual child. What kinds of media -- what TV shows, which online games? Who's with them as they read and play, and how is that experience integrated into what they are learning or interested in? And what ages and dispositions of children are drawn to what kinds of media for what reasons? Until we can answer these questions, we will continue to be in the dark about the impact of media and its complicated connection to literacy among the next generation.

Results Matter Video Series on Early Childhood Assessment - 18 views

Really appreciate how the video examples are provided both in a format to view on the Internet and that can be downloaded. Having downloads extends the ability to share the video clips in settings where there is no Internet. (can download to a laptop and share). Wishing others creating video examples would increase access to the use of their clips with a download option. Also appreciate that there are video examples in Spanish on Results Matter, and the promise of captioning. Several examples of using iPads with young children in classroom settings are provided.
