Making Compassion the Fifth C of Learning - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
The question of what learning matters most to our students is one that I return to regularly. A fascinating range of models are available each with similar elements but presented in a slightly different manner. Most could be summarised by the 'Four C's' model outlined in 'Most Likely to Succeed' by Tony Wagner and Ted Dintersmith. Critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity are vital and each plays an important role in allowing us to manage the complexity of modern day life. Beyond being relevant to success in the classroom the Four C's are the foundations of life-long learning but I question if alone they are enough. I believe we must include a fifth; compassion.

Chad Pregracke is definitely not shying away from getting his hands dirty in the name of water conservation. Since he was 17 years old, Chad has been cleaning up trash in the Mississippi River-which happens to be his backyard-singlehandedly at first when no one seemed to care. He is living proof of the adage "leading by example." A teenager on a mission to clean up the second longest river in the United States sure makes Chad different-in a good way. After founding Living Lands & Waters Foundation, Chad has never slowed down his barge. To read more about Chad Pregracke visit www.thextraordinary.org

Cure the Bullies - 19 views

  •
Interactive game to teach students about cyberbullying: "A cyberbullying "epidemic" has hit our shores and threatens to contaminate our children through emails, chatrooms, blogs, mobile phones and social networking sites. The Bullies are nasty, highly contagious viruses that lurk in cyberspace, infecting young cyber citizens with unacceptable online behaviours.   And unfortunately, something seemingly innocent such as forwarding an unpleasant email to someone can cause instant contamination.   But help is at hand.   SchoolAid, in partnership with the Vodafone Foundation, has launched a national campaign that identifies and personifies the different types of cyberbullying behaviours, and in particular, bystander behaviour, to raise awareness of this crucial issue, while encouraging open discussion among children and adults alike."

Primary School is the foundation of a child's educational life. How is he/she going to perform and what kind of attitude he/she exposes towards receiving education depends completely upon the care and assistance one receives in their primary school level. So, it is the responsibility of every conscious parent to provide their kid with the best care and support during the most formative period of their life. To support them successfully and completely, enrolling them in a primary school is not the only thing you have to do.
