New rules from the CIPA act in the US.

Lisa thuman blogged about the recent changes to the Children Internet Protection Act (CIPA) -- to those people who have rejected social networking and chats -- you're required to "educate minors on appropriate online safety including cyberbulling and interacting with others on social networking sites and in chat rooms." How are you going to do this without using safe alternatives and then coach them on it? This is REQUIRED in the US if you get erate funds. Get out there and get busy -- time for pushback. Lisa Thuman's article on this is an excellent read.

CHILDREN in Bahrain are to get 'driving lessons' - in cyber-space. They are to be taught how to navigate their way around the electronic world of computers and the Internet under a GCC-wide scheme. Children aged up to 12 in schools across the country are to be included in the free International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) digital literacy certification scheme. The scheme's governing body, the ICDL GCC Foundation, is offfering free ICDL certification to thousands of children across the region. The initiative, which started in September this year, aims to develop computer literacy at an early age, to prepare Arab youngsters to use information technology as a tool for education.

I highly recommend that elementary and middle schools at least sign up for a school code for woogi world - this is a great tool suggested by Hoover City schools for teaching digital citizenship. My daughter (my intrepid tester of all kid virtual worlds) loves it and says she thinks it is great for kids.

Great place to teach digital citizenship for students in elementary ages. Schools can sign up for accounts. Excellent place to evaluate as part of how the www is changing the world and how information is moving between children.
