Free Classical Music For Everyone? Why That's Just Plain Old-Fashioned Communism! - 0 views

  •
Do you believe the new digital economy is leading to worldwide Communism?
  •
This was probably a rhetorical question, but I don't. I believe that our economy will adjust accordingly. Just because the media industry is changing dramatically, doesn't mean people are giving away free food, free houses, free services. I feel this is just an adaptation, not a complete economical revolution.

The LDS church is member sourcing their new public relations by inviting people to submit their own "Mormon Message" video. The church is inviting people to make use of official LDS media (musical and video recordings, etc.) within their individual creations.

I know that this is a pretty indulgent post, but I was thinking about self-directed learning and it hit me that we shouldn't discount the things that are fun to read as non self-directed learning. This is one of my favorite artists' Sufjan Stevens. He's kind of like a modern day David Byrne, but he also happens to be a devout christian. I like the way he mixes religion with music in subtle forms and so I appreciated his comments on religious worship here.

This is a fantastic video!  This guy put computers in India and they just taught themselves how to use them, even to the extent of learning English!  One group of kids learned how to record their own music after only four hours with a computer!  fabulous

  • I raise an apostolic voice of warning about the potentially stifling, suffocating, suppressing, and constraining impact of some kinds of cyberspace interactions and experiences upon our souls. The concerns I raise are not new; they apply equally to other types of media, such as television, movies, and music. But in a cyber world, these challenges are more pervasive and intense. I plead with you to beware of the sense-dulling and spiritually destructive influence of cyberspace technologies that are used to produce high fidelity and that promote degrading and evil purposes.
  • Brothers and sisters, please understand. I am not suggesting all technology is inherently bad; it is not. Nor am I saying we should not use its many capabilities in appropriate ways to learn, to communicate, to lift and brighten lives, and to build and strengthen the Church; of course we should. But I am raising a warning voice that we should not squander and damage authentic relationships by obsessing over contrived ones.

I highly suggest watching this clip.  It's food for thought if nothing else--what are the flaws of our educational system, what are the consequences of those flaws, and how can we fix it?

Hey Kristen, this guy writes music for children and also political songs. This song he wrote is along those same lines. You might be interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dAujuqCo7s

Algorithmic Art- Animation for Sufjan Stevens - 2 views

  •
I just found this live visual for one of my favorite musicians--Sufjan Stevens. According to the animator's website, she uses tons and tons of algorithms to make this happen. Its kind of mesmerizing and strangely enough reminds me of kidpix. Anyways.
