Applied to marriage, assuming what's not true, that marriage between two men offends me, it's not the government's role on any level to protect me from being offended. Whatever one thinks of marriage between two men or two women, the argument that such a union negatively impacts those who aren't gay, or those who blanch at marriage between gay people is not compelling. Here's hoping we don't stop at marriage in expanding individual rights, rights that are natural, and that should exist free of political or voter influence.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) will represent NAPAWF and the NAACP in court.

The goal of the ACLU is to guarantee that all are free to practice their faith-or no faith at all-without governmental interference. Through litigation, public education, and advocacy, the ACLU promotes religious freedom and works to ensure that government neither prefers religion over non-religion nor favors particular faiths over others.

In his January 2014 State of the Union address, President Obama called for a new federal minimum wage of $10.10 an hour. The year before, in the same speech, he proposed a $9 minimum wage. I definitely that Obamas move to raise the minimum wage has caused more problems than it has done good. It's only created a sense of working less, doing less for more pay. People don't want to work hard, get an education, or persue a career goal in order to make money. It's seems more common that people just want what's easy and what gives them the most for their own selfish desires.

Since then, Sheriff Joe has ignored a court order for reported racial profiling and criminal contempt charges could be issued if prosecutors are willing.

First of all, I can't believe that he is 84 now. I didn't know that. More importantly, I've never liked our sheriff and have heard a ton of nothing but bad things about him and especially his actions of being racist. States cannot keep same-sex couples from marrying and must recognize their unions, the Supreme Court says in a ruling that for months has been the focus of speculation. The decision was 5-4. Justice Anthony Kennedy, seen as a pivotal swing vote in the case, wrote the majority opinion.

Recently the Albany County Legislature passed a law banning the sale of cigarettes at pharmacies. Keep in mind that this law does not ban the sale of cigarettes throughout Albany County, but instead takes aim at a specific retailers. The sponsors of the bill feel that it is hypocritical for pharmacies, and markets that have pharmacies like Price Chopper, ShopRite and Hannaford, to sell these products. Many pharmacies have already made the decision to not sell cigarettes. Many grocery stores with pharmacies have already eliminated cigarette displays. If a smoker wants to buy cigarettes and is unable to do so while shopping at a supermarket or pharmacy, he or she will simply go to a convenience store where selling of tobacco products is legal. Legislators once again believe they can make better choices than you, by restricting the sale of legal products.
