Many social media users experience cyber-bullying. It's sad to say that it's a common and fairly easy thing to do and there should be more movements to stop it, but when there's people like celebrities doing it, who have millions of followers, there isn't an initiative or example to follow that promotes the cessation of cyber-bullying.
  •
Cyber-bullying is definitely an issue that needs to be discussed. Many online platforms don't adequately deal with bullying. Bullying can also lead to suicide. An example of this I believe is the suicide trend seen on some social media sites where teenagers primarily spend their time on such as Tumblr.
  •
I was glad to see a topic on cyber bulling it is a huge issue due to the fact that we are always on electronic divides. I recently just watched a movie on the subject the other night on Netflix. In the movie the young girl told both her parents and the school that she was being harassed and the school did nothing to help. The young girl ended up committing suicide.
  •
I think that cyber bullying is certainly a big issue. A lot of people may not even know that they are cyber bullying. You can see all over the internet people making fun of other people, even if it seems harmless. Some people don't realize that this can affect someone tremendously. They don't think about what they are putting online before they post it.
  •
People are too afraid too confront others, so they go online and make fun of them instead. When we are behind our phones or computers we feel a lot more comfortable and don't think much about it. Cyber bullying is wrong and hurts others emotionally.
  •
I am also glad that this was an article posted. This is such a growing issue, and has been for sometime. It's extremely unfortunate that school are part of this, and when these children go home they can't find solace because of the internet and all the social apps created.

Surviving Kidnapping - 3 views

15 true stories of the torment kids went through while they were kidnapped. These are children that were taken and lived to tell the story.

It is heartbreaking when you know how kids can suffer. According to some investigations the majority of kids that are kidnap get kidnap by someone they know. These are only 15 stories of kids that were kidnap and is sad because there are thousands of kids that are killed after they being kidnap.
  •
This article is incredible and devastating at the same time. It's heartbreaking that these people had to go through what they did, but it's so amazing to see how their instincts and the help of others were able to get them out of such horrifying situations.
  •
The stories of the children being kidnapped were shocking. Just to think that many of those kids that are abducted are usually taken by people they know. It was good to read on some stories where kids could still get through what they went through and marry and have children of their own.
  •
Wow, these stories are so sad. I can not even begin to imagine what it must have been like. It makes me happy that these 15 kids made it through those horrible situations and are able to talk about it today. Although those tough situations make you a stronger person, these kids were able to have families of their own and that is a good thing. It is even more sad to know that there are thousands of other kids out there going through the same thing if not worse at this very instant.
  •
Reading stories like this just make you cringe. It's crazy to think that this is a major issue in our day. It's good to read and see how they live after they go through this traumatic experience.

Gay Marriage: Personal Freedoms and Equal Rights - 0 views

  •
Article about Gay marriage and how it effects personal freedoms. Also about peoples feelings towards new laws.
  •
The new California gay marriage law has taken effect, and thousands of couples are clamoring to exercise that right at secular offices and religious institutions throughout the state. These thoughts were inspired in part by an email, received Monday, with a link to the New York Times review of a new movie, Chris and Don: A Love Story, about the British-born writer Christopher Isherwood and his life-long companion, the artist Don Bachardy.

Lawmakers in Ten States Have Proposed Legislation Criminalizing Peaceful Protest - 3 views

  •
The right to protest has been a major point of freedom for the US. It's a fundamental right written in the constitution. Now lawmakers are trying to take away that freedom by making it illegal to protest.

I hope more citizens read this article and understand its implications. The core of our rights are being challenged. Without our citizens ability to organize and speak out against policies the our legislators enact we are heading into a direction of totalitarianism. We the people hold the power. Vote.
  •
The real problem is the groups that are vandalizing and rioting, and then claiming it is their right. Because of these people, these states are trying to do something that should never even be a thought. Basic human rights shall never be taken by Americans as long as we don't allow it. @albertskarsten you are absolutely right " We the people hold the power"
  •
The right to peaceful protest should never be taken from the American people. I do not condone the violence and rioting that occurs, and laws pertaining to that are pertinent, but not peaceful protest. So many things have been accomplished because of these types of protests in our history. As a woman I would not be participating in this class if it weren't for the people brave enough to protest for equality. It is a travesty that government officials, who should know and understand the rights given to the us in the Constitution, would bring about legislation to override said rights.

How states are dealing with older drivers - 2 views

  •
The article covers the personal freedom issue of whether or not older people should be allowed to drive. This article introduces different ideas of how different states are dealing with older drivers. Some states are requiring more frequent testing, or some sort of evaluation.
  • ...2 more comments...
  •
I do feel that states should have people at a certain age be tested more often. I work in Sun City and almost everyday I see an accident or someone driving where they should not be driving.
  •
I think that once you get to a certain age that if you still want to drive you should be required to get tested again to be sure that you will be okay out on the road, its nothing against older people driving its more of a safety issue and I see that in this article. More frequent testing is the right move for the states that are starting to require that. Hopefully soon that will show all over America.
  •
I think this is a great article. I think for a lot of elderly people the possibility of having their drivers license taken away makes them feel as if they just lost that piece of end independent living. I do agree the elderly should be tested to make sure they aren't at great risks for accidents. This articles speaks about classes older people can take to help them be safer drivers. I this is a great article to share with many people.
  •
Long story short. All elders should go through REGULAR testing to continue to drive! These old people are really acting out! This article helps identify lots of points that need to be taken to keep our elders safe!

Native American Injustice Issues - 2 views

  •
The United States was built on land taken from Indian nations. Treaties between the US and the Indian nations over land is being overruled by the federal government. The federal government has been overruling sacred places on Native American land.

  •
It is sad that natives to a land are getting their land taken away when they already have enough issues as is like students failing and living in poor housing conditions.
  •
This is a very powerful article. I didn't realize annexation was still practiced however I suppose the idea of imminent domain can be considered modern day annexation. Very sad to see it's practiced mostly on the less fortunate or minority groups.
  •
Native people are the foundation of this country and it is not fair that the government feels that they have the right to take something that wasn't theirs to begin with.
  •
Everyday, the native American community is pushed further into the ground by the American government. Though they were in the America's first, there is little respect to their traditions. This article focuses on thirteen touchy subjects for Native Americans.
  •
the issued shown here are very important issues people don't see native Americans go through. as a Native American myself I see these issues everyday such as a resent issue of a Native American being strutted by a border patrol agent was in a way swept under carpet. the article gives us what native Americans face even the issues where the u.s. had treaties with the native Americans and did not do anything to help resolve the issue but keep in hidden as much as they can.

The most persecuted group in world - 1 views

  •
Perry Chiaramonte reports a study taken by the Center for Studies on New Religions, and quotes Robert Nicholson and Ryan Mauro on the subject of Christian persecution. Being a Christian is the most dangerous thing you can do in many nations, and Christianity is the religion of the powerless.
  •
I must say, I am not at all surprised that this study shows Christians as being the "most persecuted group in the world." All throughout history Christians have been persecuted in one way or another, especially during the Middle Ages. It is sad, however, to see how far from that era the world had come, yet seemingly is now back-sliding to that.

Rx Companies Raise Prices on COVID-19 Drugs - 3 views

  •
Big pharma companies have taken advantage of everyday Americans in need of their daily support during the chaotic times we live in. Many of the drugs used each day to help patients fighting Covid-19 have drastically gone up in price since the first case appeared in america. With these prices changes many Americans may not be able to get the proper help needed to get better, and as such may extend the time needed for us to fight off the virus as a whole.

I personally did not know that this was happening right now, but it unfortunately makes sense because it is in such high demands. I do not think that they should be doing that & its awful that if someone can't pay for these drugs, they have a potential of losing their life, which should not be a problem.
  •
Of course big pharma would do this. By raising prices of these drugs, pharmaceutical companies are effectively making it more difficult for people with other healthcare conditions to afford these drugs. As an example, with the price of Ativan increasing, this may result in people who suffer from panic disorder to have difficulty affording a medication that they have a need for.
  •
As sad as this is, it's truly not surprising. Our society is so based on how much money someone does or doesn't have and companies will take advantage of it. Especially with the pandemic and the uncertainty of what helps, this is sickening.
  •
Wow, that is definitely not good
  •
This is extremely sad to hear especially because it seem like they are taking advantage of the pandemic but I also agree that it could because it is in high demand with our current situation.
  •
This is extremely sad to hear. On one hand it seems like companies are taking advantage with the pandemic but on the other hand because I also agree that with our current situation it could be these products are in very high demand.
  •
It is crazy to think that companies would prioritize profits over the help of the people. I understand the demand; however, it shouldn't be the only reason for the increase in price.
  •
When I read this article I thought to myself wow this is insane but to actually think about it, why? why is it so important to profit from something everyone in this world needs

Public Health and personal freedom - 0 views

  •
In this article the author's argument is how public health and personal freedoms conflict. The author specifically wrote about alcohol as the drug of choice. He describes the public health perspective and restrictions on drugs, then explain the benefits of alcohol and how the restrictions effect one's personal freedom.
  •
The author weighs in on some of the issues regarding personal freedoms and the conflicts that it has in public health. He argues that the individual's needs and freedoms need to be taken into account, rather than just the overall public health and safety.
