While our education system is definitely flawed, many immigrants come to our country to pursue an education because of the quality of education available in the U.S. The big problem with this, however, is that "quality education" is generally expensive, or only available to the wealthy. With this in mind, how do our schools really measure up when comparing an urban, underfunded school with less-than-desirable educational quality to the "standard," as set by our society?
  •
I agree with this article in regards to what the issues are and how to address them. There isn't one magic solution, but I feel like better legislation and more resources going towards education can be a good starting point.
  •
I agree with many of the points and believe with the proper changes, and funding we can build a better education system. but also agree with dan that many come to america because we do have a great education system but most of it costs money.

A lack of funds is defiantly a massive problem. If there's going to be a chance to fix these problems anytime soon, that should be a major one.

Why Social Justice in School Matters | NEA - 0 views

  •
In school today there is not fair treatment across-the-board. There needs to be fair and equal treatment given to everyone despite race, age, sexuality, or ability.
  •
Social justice should be more awareness in every school. It seems that there is no respect no human treatment. Every one should be cautions in how treat people and not divided by race, age and more.
  •
Interesting article about how social justice can effect school outcomes.

I think this is a great topic. Since, we are all in college and know first hand the expenses of college. This article argues to push for free college. He talks about a college in Georgia where they have scholarships for free college. I think this is rather interesting!

This is an interesting thought however, I feel that too easily the system would get bogged down. Also, the money to pay for this free college would have to come from tax-payers. In reality I don't see how it would work. I know in Germany college is free IF a student has a certain score on a standardized test, so that the government sees the student as a worthwhile investment. It sounds harsh, but it works. I think in America too many things would cause that rule to be derailed. Also, Germany has as much smaller and homogeneous population, so that works better.

I am a person who is all for free education..in theory. Like Amanda, I do not believe it would be beneficial to provide the United States with free education because we as the tax papers would suffer. However, I do wish the government would make it so that we are not in such crippling debt once our education is over.
  •
As much as I would love to see free education, it would not be free because it would come down to the average tax payer to pay for it. I do however wish to see lower interest rates.
  •
I wish education could be 100% free. Everyone is always pushing us younger people to pursue a college degree without knowing that college isn't just a sign up and go kind of thing. You have to pay thousands of dollars either out of pocket or by federal funding.

Time and time again, states have passed or tried to pass laws that restrict certain people from voting. Although everyone is still given the right to vote, these laws make the voting process harder for many people.

Support for Dreamers grows in face of Trump threat that would uproot lives - Education ... - 1 views

  •
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is currently in the battle of surviving. In this article it shows all the support, information on the program, and how many lives will be affected.
  •
I personally know a lot of people myself that will be strongly affected if DACA is removed. I believe that criminals should be penalized but not the people that are actually trying to do something right, pay their taxes, work, and go to school. Like the articles states, America is the only country some people have ever known, it would be devastating if DACA is eliminated.
