Analyzing the impact of social factors on homelessness: a Fuzzy Cognitive Map approach - 0 views

  •
Homelessness is another social issue and its caused by lack of affordable housing and accessible jobs. Once one becomes homeless it is very difficult for them to receive help as the government lacks to have adequate funding, or any funding for that matter, to assist in decreasing the numbers of homelessness. Whether that be through more jobs, less experience/starting experience available, higher minimum wage, and more affordable living situations.
  •

Liquid Candy - 0 views

  •
In 1998 the individual soda intake was at its highest, averaging a surprising 56.1 gallons. Six years later in 2004, carbonated soft drinks had a 7 percent decline in individual consumption. In addition, replacing regular soda with diet soda helped decrease the intake of caloric beverages an impressive 12 percent. Health problems like obesity and being overweight result from the lack of nutrients in these beverages. The widespread issues are due to high rise consumption rates of these carbonated soft drinks. Liquid candy is statistically proven to be a prime factor for excessive weight increase. A problem for our population following the increase is the Type 2 diabetes. These health issues can lead to long term illnesses and sometimes life threatening diseases such as heart attacks, strokes and cancer.

Lots Of Other Countries Mandate Paid Leave. Why Not The U.S.? - 0 views

  •
Democratic presidential nominees Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders are both fighting for stronger paid leave laws, including paid vacation and paid maternity leave. This will be helpful in keeping women in the workforce.
  •
I'm interested in this topic too. I feel that organizations who offer this benefit will see the return from the parent when they return to work. I've seen some new mothers return to work when they are not ready, and they end up having decreased performance, or end up looking for new work a few weeks later so they can be with their new baby more. This creates more cost for the company than paid leave would have.

Major Changes Await in Mental Health Legislation-But Will They Be Enough? * SJS - 0 views

  •
In 2010, A report by the Treatment Advocacy Center discovered a seventeen percent decrease in the number of available psychiatric beds, and psychiatric facilities. The funding for mental health resources is still continuing to be cut. Back in 1955, there was more funding for the mentally ill, and more housing. Today, we are are given less than half of the funding we were then. We currently have 13 beds for 100,000 people. Where as in 1955 there were 50 beds for 100,000 people. The Mental Health Reform Act of 2016 is bringing the United States one step closer to providing more adequate help for the mentally ill. Such as, more funding for at risk populations.
