There are a lot of people talking about freedom of speech on the internet these days. Some sites say they stand for free speech, but does the first amendment apply to them? Where are we free to speak our minds on the internet?

Coming 2016: All-Out War On So-Called Social Justice - 0 views

  •
There's a problem arising among the millennial generation, a generation that values art and culture. But it's beginning to take a turn, it doesn't like any form of authoritarian figure, whether it be from the left or right. These are the people who stand up against false grievances and over exaggerated remarks towards race, color, and gender.
  •
This is completely true, this generation has been so manipulated by the media, which they have depended on so fiercely as of late, that they will listen to anything they hear, and automatically believe they are experts in the field. People need to educate themselves, and grow up, and fast, because a generation of socialist, social justice warriors, that are uneducated, and have a twisted sense of justice have risen.

Yes, you have the right to an attorney, even if you cannot afford one. But do you stand a chance? This article mentions how court-appointed lawyers typically spend less than six minutes per case, thanks to the lack of funding of public defender's offices. What happened to equal justice?

Education and Social Issues:Learning Through Real-World Contexts - 0 views

  •
The education system suffers from many social issues, but the one that stands out to me most is that real life experiences/lessons aren't taught in the standard educational system. Children/young adults are not taught enough about the world around them thus not preparing them for life outside of school.
  •
I completely agree with this I feel like we are not taught too many real-life situations school is supposed to prepare us for the future and how can we do that if we don't know many basic life skills great article!

Next 10 Amendments: Flag burning and protected free speech - 1 views

  •
Is burning or desecrating the American flag a right protected by the First Amendment? Or should a new constitutional amendment outlaw both acts? The issue of desecrating the flag goes back in the courts almost 100 years. Finally in 1989, the Supreme Court decided in Texas v.

I was watching a lecture by Michael Parenti on this subject. A few people would argue that there are other bigger problems our nation should address before this issue, but I argue that this topic is important too. Nice read.
  •
It is interesting to know that this has been a problem for almost 100 years it amazing. In my own opinion I feel it is disrespectful to Americans and our military. On the other hand I can see where some would think it is a right for the 1st Amendment.
  •
I do not think that burning the American flag is really effective as it only makes others mad. I think that people should protest if they are upset about something or believe something is unfair. I do not think that people should protest violently/aggressively, though. A lot of people protest peacefully, but some do protest violently- which only puts a harsh look on the whole situation.
  •
I understand that there is a lot wrong with this country and people have a right to be upset with our government and how the country is right now. I feel that the flag symbolizes much more than just our country. I feel like it stands for every man and woman fighting for this country in the military. The flag symbolizes the military people that have died for us. I feel like buring the flag is complete disrespect to those that have died for our country and their families. There are so many ways to protest your beliefs about the country, there is no need to burn the flag that I feel represents the honor of those that have died for our country.

Details on State Prayer in Public School Laws - FindLaw - 2 views

  •
Prayer has been a topic of some controversy with the public school systems in America for over 50 years, it has been federally banned other than silent prayers, and in some states it has been banned all together. This is a disgusting violation of Americans first amendment right, as well as our inalienable rights as human of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, for some prayer is a pursuit of happiness. To ban ones ability to pray in school, while they are being taught as if God were not real, is a outrageous violation of the rights of not just Christians, but Islamic folk, and people of Jewish decent. Prayer offers peace, and a hope for salvation, and a denial of such ability in a place where most students attend is an outrageous violation of our rights as humans, and as Americans.

A constitutional right of all citizens is the freedom of religion, and praying in schools is a way of exercising that right. If praying is banned in public education, then the constitutional right to practice religion is being infringed upon.
  •
While religious freedoms are very important in our country we need to look at what the purpose of school is. In my opinion, schools are not morally obligated but factually obligated. This article states that you must look at the religious aspect to understand history which I completely agree. I do not remember my classes removing religious aspects from the curriculum. Is this prevalent nowadays?
  •
I am on the fence with this topic. I think that all Americans should have the right to pray in school but on the other hand I feel that it may be disrespectful to the third party. This is a tough topic for all people weather they are religious or not.
  •
America is the land of opportunity and freedom. We have the freedom to follow any religion. I think that banning prayer in schools is something that takes away from that right. If it's pray is part of the religion, why is it frowned upon and seen as disrespectful? Our country should respect and go for what it stands for.

Religion and prayer in U.S. public school systems - 1 views

  •
Many schools have clubs that include many types of students that help them get involved and in a community. These clubs are sometimes led by teachers, fellow students, or parents. Examples of such organizations are FCA, bible study, and so on that are incorporating religion into school. Some say this is against the law, while others say they are merely meeting in the school and not teaching it with the curriculum. Reread old files and cases to determine for yourself where you stand on this popular topic.
  •
I looked at a similar article when choosing my articles. It is interesting that so many of think prayer is not allowed in schools. So often the media sensationalizes these matters, and we as citizens do not do our due diligence in double checking the facts.

Suicide Statistics | Befrienders - 2 views

  •
The rising suicide rates across the globe are disturbing. Over the past 45 years, the suicide rates have risen by 60%, they have nearly doubled, and are getting worse every year. As of 2016, a person commits suicide every 40 seconds, and the CDC believes that that number will rise to one every 20 seconds by 2020, a disturbing figure. The phenomenon has had little explanation as to cause, however i believe it is the fall in the number of people of faith, or religion. Over the past 50 years, more and more people have lost faith, and crime rates, and suicide rates have skyrocketed. But that is just a theory.

The is becoming more and more of issue as the years pass. I see it with friends, co-workers, and have even dealt with it in close family. Often times it's the ones we don't even notice that actually do it, and the ones that say they're going to are the ones crying out for help. Always be aware of the people around you, and always offer help when you see someone needs it.
  •
It's sad to read about the growing rate of suicide and difficult to know why. Many people feel lost and insecure in this world and there can be many factors involved when someone decides to take their life away. There is also much debate about physician assisted suicide and whether or not it should be legal or how the process should be carried out.
  •
The statistic that 90% of suicide cases are related to a mental health disorder stands out to me. Maybe this is a field to look into?
  •
This is definitely interesting. Suicide can be quite complex. However, something to keep in mind is the manner in which suicide is reported. I know from my field of work that some families can choose not to report a family member's death as suicide. This is something important to note when looking at statistics.
  •
We all are aware and know how scary suicide can be but it is heartbreaking to know that every year the growing rate is rising. We see on the news and on social media that teens are committing suicide but we need to realize that it is not just teens, its all people. The best thing we can do for those who have thought of committing suicide is to be there and listen to them when help is needed.
  •
It's sad to hear about how often suicide happens. I wasn't aware of how bad it actually was. There are many different reasons people decide to take their life away. All we can really do is to try to be there for anyone who needs help and show people that you care. Sometimes it can be from the people we least expect.
